Apple WWDC 2015 Keynote: Everything you need to know

There were a number of announcements that were made at Apple’s WWDC 2015 keynote. The event first started off with a intro video starring former-SNL star, Bill Hader and also included Danny Pudi of Community fame.

After the video, Tim Cook came on stage but he did things a bit different this year. He did not talk about all the record breaking numbers that Apple has achieved over the last year, he saved those for later on.

OS X El Capitan

The first announcement of the day was OS X 10.11 El Capitan. The name for this version of the OS still falls in a with Apple’s new California-based names.

OS X El Capitan brings along a whole slate of new features while still retaining the look that OS X Yosemite brought last year.

The Apple iPad turns 5

Five years ago, on April 3rd is when Apple released the first generation iPad. This came three years after the Apple announced the iPhone in 2007.

Since 2010, the iPad has gone through a number of designs but it still remained a tablet when boiled down to the core.

The iPad has changed the way computing works in our daily lives.

Here is a look at the iPad’s history.

Original iPad Announcement – January 27th, 2010

Steve Jobs took to the stage at the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco. Jobs unveiled the original iPad to the world and would be followed by it’s release a few months later.

The .COM domain name celebrates 30 years

On March 15th 1985, the very first .com domain was registered. The company with first domain, was a company called Symbolics, (which has since defunct). This was about a year after the World Wide Web was first invented by Sir Tim Berners-Lee.

Symbolics was a computer company that started in Massachusetts. If it Symbolics hadn’t registered the first .com domain. Then we wouldn’t sites like Google.com, YouTube.com or even TheCanadian Techie.com.

Apple March 9th 2015 Event: Everything you need to know

Apple made a few announcements at their ‘Spring Forward’ event. Including more details about the Apple Watch, a refresh on the MacBook Pro and Air and also a new MacBook.

Apple has confirmed that the Apple Watch will be coming on April 24th 2015. It will be coming to nine countries including Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, the UK and the US.

The battery life of the Apple Watch will be about 18 hours. It’s better than people expected but it’s not at the same level as some of the competition from Android Wear or Pebble.

Pre-orders for the Apple Watch will start on April 10th. Also on that day, Apple will be offering an in-store preview of the Apple Watch to see how it fits.

Pebble Time Steel Announcement: Everything You Need to Know

On February 24th, Pebble announced their newest smartwatch, the Pebble Time. They also announced a new hardware platform for the Pebble Time.

Now a week later, Pebble has announced the Pebble Time Steel. Before this announcement, Pebble’s latest KickStarter campaign was over $12 million.

Pebble Time Announcement: Everything You Need to Know

Pebble announced there latest smartwatch called the Pebble Time. It features an all new design the is  20% thinner than the original Pebble.

This new smartwatch has colour display, has 5-7 days of battery life and is compatible with the 6,500 apps and watchfaces available already. The Pebble Time is still water resistance and customizable.

The Pebble Time will be compatible with iOS 8 running on the iPhone 4S or later. And works with any Android phone running 4.0+ including Samsung, HTC, Sony, LG, Google, Motorola, Xiaomi and many more.

Apple September 9th 2014 Event: Everything you need to know

There were a quite a few announcements made at Apple’s September 9th Event. The products that were announced were the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus and the long-rumored Apple Watch.

After many leaks and rumors, Apple made the iPhone 6 official. The new iPhone comes with a 4.7 inch Retina HD display with a resolution of 1334-by-750 at 326 ppi, a new A8 chip, Touch ID (like the 5S from last year),  Fast LTE (which included support for VoiceOver LTE), a new 8 megapixel iSight camera with “Focus Pixels”, Apple Pay (which is Apple’s equivalent of Google Wallet or other tap-to-pay systems).

For battery life, you will be able to expect 14 hours of talk-time on 3G, 10 days of standby time, 10 hours of internet while on 3G (the same goes for while on LTE). It is bumped up to 11 hours of internet while on Wi-Fi. Video playback is now up to 11 hours and audio playback is up to 50 hours.

It will come in three colours: silver, gold & space grey. The on-contract price was not announced for Canadian carriers but it should be close to the American carriers’ price, which is as follows: 16GB – $199, 64GB – $299 (and yes, Apple did get rid of the 32GB version for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus) and 128GB – $399. The unlocked pricing is as follows: 16GB – $749, 64GB – $859, 128GB – $969.
