At a launch event, Asus unveiled more details about their ROG Ally gaming handheld including specs and pricing.
The ROG Ally was initially teased as an early April Fools Day joke but turned out to be a real product.

The device has a 7-inch Full HD IPS display with 500 nits of peak brightness and a 120Hz refresh rate. The display also supports Dolby Vision HDR and AMD FreeSync Premium.
Powering the ROG Ally is the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor which uses AMD’s Zen 4 architecture. The chip has 8 cores and 16 threads and the GPU has 12 RDNA3 CUs.

Asus will be offering a ROG Ally model with a 6-core and 12-thread version of the AMD Ryzen Z1 processor in Q3 2023.
“Our team has spent over a decade developing the technologies necessary to enable the Ryzen Z1 Series of processors. Working with visionary partners like ROG, we’ve designed a platform that
redefines mobile gaming,” said Renato Fragale, senior director of product management for the Consumer and Gaming Client Business at AMD. “We’re excited for gamers to experience the first
device powered by Ryzen Z1 Series processors with the launch of the ROG Ally.”
There’s also 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM along with a 512GB SSD.
For the controls, the handheld has A, B, X, and Y buttons, D-pad, L & R Hall Effect analog triggers, L & R bumpers, a View button, a Menu button, a Command Centre button, an Armoury Crate button, assignable grip buttons, 2 full-size analog sticks with capacitive touch.

Other specs include a 2-speaker system, Dolby Atmos support, triple band Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2 and a fingerprint sensor.
For ports, the ROG Ally has a microSD card slot, 3.5mm headphone jack and ROG XG Mobile Interface that lets you connect to Asus’ ROG XG Mobile external GPU.

Asus will be offering a ROG XG Mobile with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU for extra power.

The battery inside the ROG Ally is 40 WHr which can be charged via the included 65W USB-C charger.
The ROG Ally is running Windows 11, so you’ll be able to install games from Steam, the Microsoft Store or titles from PC Game Pass/Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, the Epic Games Store, GOG Galaxy 2.0 and the EA app.

“Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members have access to hundreds of games, including hits like Minecraft Legends, Grounded, Age of Empire IV and many more,” said Roanne Sones, CVP, Head of Xbox Hardware. “With the ROG Ally and Game Pass Ultimate, we can’t wait for people to discover and play their next favourite game on the go, whether it’s playing native PC games with Windows or streaming console games with Xbox Cloud Gaming.”
