At CES 2023, HTC Vive has announced their latest headset with the new Vive XR Elite.
“The VIVE XR Elite all-in-one represents the next milestone in the progression towards the fully immersive internet, going beyond today’s VR with accurate pass-through video to open up a new realm of realism in learning and playing,” said Cher Wang, Co-Founder and Chairwoman of HTC Corp. “This advanced yet compact device offers the best of all worlds for consumers, providing the ideal physical gateway to the universe of experiences offered by VIVERSE, our version of the metaverse, with the widest variety of content inputs even up to the very latest standards such as WiFi 6E.”
The HTC Vive XR Elite features 4K resolution with 2K per eye, 110 degrees FOV and a 90Hz refresh rate. The headset uses a pancake lens design similar to the Meta Quest Pro.
There’s also inside-out tracking via four FOV cameras and 6Degress of freedom. The headset also has a RGB camera for passthrough and mixed-reality applications.
Powering the Vive XR Elite is the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 chip with 12GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
The headset also features a built-in fine adjustable IPD slider and the device weighs 625g with the battery. There’s also a removable fabric face gasket that attaches via magnets, so you can easily swap it out for a new one.
Speaking of battery life, the headset offers up to two hours of full XR use. Thankfully, there’s a USB-C port, so you can plug the headst into a battery bank for extended use.
Like HTC Vive’s previous headsets, the Vive XR Elite can connect to your PC via USB-C, so you can enjoy PCVR content such as titles on Viveport and Steam.
You can also stream wirelessly from your PC over Wi-Fi for wire-free PCVR gaming. There’s also support to stream content from an Android phone, so you can watch video content from Disney+ and Netflix on a larger virtual screen (up to 300 inches).
The HTC Vive XR Elite is available for pre-order today globally from the company’s website. The headset will cost $1,549 CAD ($1,099 USD) and it’ll ship in late February.
In the box, you’ll get the Vive XR Elite headset, two controllers and a headset battery cradle.
HTC Vive will be launching a Face and Eye tracker unit for the headset later this year.
