Good news, everyone! Futurma is back again but this time on Hulu.
The series is being revived for 20 episodes on Hulu (Disney+ in Canada) with the show’s original creators, Matt Groening and David X. Cohen set to return.
“I’m thrilled to have another chance to think about the future … or really anything other than the present,” David X. Cohen said.
Matt Groening said, “It’s a true honor to announce the triumphant return of Futurama one more time before we get canceled abruptly again.”
The revival will see entire voice cast return to reprise their roles including: Billy West (Fry), Katey Sagal (Leela), John DiMaggio (Bender), Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr and David Herman.
“When presented with the opportunity to bring fans and viewers new episodes of Futurama, we couldn’t wait to dive in, said Craig Erwich, president of originals at Hulu and ABC Entertainment. “This iconic series helped blaze the trail for the success of adult animation since its initial launch and we look forward to Matt & David continuing to pave the way and further establishing Hulu as the premiere destination for fans of the genre.”
This revival of Futurama is just one of a few recent animated revival at Hulu in the past couple of years including the Animaniacs revival, which just premiered it’s second season and with a third on the way.
The Futurama revival is set to hit Hulu (and Disney+ internationally) sometime in 2023.
Update – March 1st, 2022: The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that John DiMaggio (the voice of Bender) has reached a deal, and will be joining the rest of the cast for Hulu revival of Futurama.
In a statement DiMaggio said,
“I’M BACK, BABY! So damn grateful for the love and support of fans and colleagues alike during this whole time (especially my wife, Kate), and I cannot wait to get back to work with my ‘Futurama’ family. #Bendergate is officially over, so put it on the back of a shelf behind Xmas decorations, or maybe in that kitchen drawer with all of the other crap you put in there like old unusable crazy glue, or maybe even put it in a jar you save farts in. Whatever floats your boat, I don’t care, you get the picture. I’M BACK, BABY! BITE MY SHINY METAL ASS!”
Futurama co-creator Matt Groening said in a statement, “From the moment John DiMaggio auditioned last century, we knew we had our Bender. So congrats to everyone at ‘Futurama.’ We’re all back, baby!”
And executive producer and co-creator, David X. Cohen adding, “John DiMaggio may be a great robot, but he’s also a great human being. Not many people or machines can say that. For the fourth time, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime thrill to be back with our entire original cast and the phenomenal animators of Rough Draft Studios!”
