After launching back in 2019, DJI’s action camera is back with the new modular Action 2 camera.
Just like DJI’s other products, the company has done away with the Osmo branding and just called this new model Action 2.
“Whether you’re racing down a mountain or playing tag with your kids on a playground, everybody deserves an easy and intuitive tool to capture and remember those life moments,” said Paul Pan, DJI Senior Product Line Manager. “We stripped our action camera down to its fundamentals and rebuilt it from the ground up to create DJI Action 2. You can configure this camera for neighborhood walks, hang gliding off a cliff, music festivals, and countless other action-packed moments. DJI Action 2 embeds DJI’s legendary technology in a revolutionary new series of mounts and fittings, making it easier than ever to see your life in action.”
The new Action 2 now features a modular design that is like Insta360’s One R action camera. To attach some of these modules, they magnetically connect to the Action 2 using the pogo pins.
Some of the accessories for Action 2 include a Magnetic Lanyard, Magnetic Ball-Joint Adapter mount, Bluetooth Remote Control Extension Rod, Magnetic Headband, Battery module and Front Screen Module.
The Action 2 features a 1/1.7″ CMOS sensor with a 155-degree FOV and that can shoot up to 4K video at 120fps and 12MP stills.
There’s also a 1.76-inch OLED touchscreen on the back of the Action 2. The camera is waterproof up to 10m (up to 60m with the waterproof case) and weighs just 56 grams.
The camera’s new Colour Temperature Sensor lets you change tones depending on the lighting situation. For example, filming underwater can offer more vibrant and natural colours.
The camera features 32GB of internal storage plus a microSD card slot.
Just like GoPro’s cameras, DJI has their own stabilization feature for the Action 2 called RockSteady which uses EIS and algorithms to produce stable and shake-free footage.
There’s also a feature called HorizonSteady which keeps a level horizon, no matter the camera’s orientation. This is similar to GoPro’s Max Lens mod for the Hero9 and Hero10.
The Action 2 comes in two combos available, the Dual Screen Combo, which includes the Action 2 Main Camera, Front TouchScreen Module, Magnetic Collar, Magnetic Ball Head Adapter Holder and Magnetic Adapter Holder.
And the Power Combo which, includes the Action 2 main camera, power module, magnetic collar and magnetic adapter holder.
The DJI Action 2 is available now from the company’s website for $519 CAD ($399 USD) Power Combo and $679 CAD ($519 USD) for the Dual Screen Combo.
