Intel’s Arc GPUs are taking AMD and NVIDIA head-on

Intel has announced Intel Arc, which is the branding for their consumer-grade GPUs.

“Today marks a key moment in the graphics journey we started just a few years ago. The launch of the Intel Arc brand and the reveal of future hardware generations signifies Intel’s deep and continued commitment to gamers and creators everywhere. We have teams doing incredible work to ensure we deliver first-class and frictionless experiences when these products are available early next year.” Roger Chandler, Intel vice president and general manager of Client Graphics Products and Solutions.

The company says the new Arc brand will “cover hardware, software and services, and will span multiple hardware generations.”

The first GPUs under the Arc brand will be based on Intel’s Xe “Alchemist” microarchitecture. The Xe HPG is designed to “deliver scalability and compute efficiency with advanced graphics features.”

The GPUs support a number of features including mesh shading, variable rate shading, video upscaling, hardware-based ray tracing and full support for DirectX 12 Ultimate.

The first Intel Arc GPUs are set to launch in Q1 2022.
