BMW’s all-electric i4 and iX are coming to Canada in 2022

BMW has announced their latest electric vehicles, the i4 sedan and iX SUV will officially be coming to Canada next year.

From the outside, the iX shares similarities to BMW’s gas-powered SUVs. The company says the iX SUV takes “the functionality of the BMW X5 with agility of the BMW X6 and the expressive appearance of the BMW X7.”

The vehicle is a mid-size SUV with dual-motors for all-wheel drive. It uses modular CLAR platform, which has the 5th gen version of BMW’s electric drivetain architecture.

The extended range battery is a 100 kWh cell, which should offer up to 600km of range. While the standard 70 kWh battery has 400km.

The iX has 516 hp and can go from 0-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds.

Depending on battery, the iX supports up to 200 kW DC fast charging, to get you 10% to 80% in 40 mins. A full charge on a 11 kW AC charger take 11 hours.

Inside, the iX has a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen with BMW’s iDrive 8. In some markets, you’ll have built-in 5G.

There’s three models for the iX:

  • iX xDrive 40 – 70 kWh battery – 400km range (with 150 kW fast charging)
  • iX xDrive 50 – 100 kWh battery – 600km range (with 200 kW fast charging)
  • iX M60 – Specs TBA

BMW Canada has confirm the iX xDrive 50 model will be coming to Canada.

The BMW iX xDrive 50 starts at $89,990 CAD and is set to launch in Q1 2022. It’ll also be launching in the US at the same time.

2022 BMW i4 eDrive40

If you’re looking at sedan, then the i4 might be more of your speed.

The i4 EV has a max output of 390 kW or 530 hp (on the M50 model), which is the equivalent to an BMW V8 engine.

The 80 kWh battery pack can be charged on a DC 150 kW charger to get 80% in 35 mins or 100km in six mins.

There will be three models of the i4:

  • i4 eDrive35 – 60 kWh battery – TBA range – 200 kW peak power
  • i4 eDrive40 – 80 kWh battery – 590 km range – 246 kW peak power
  • i4 M50 – 80 kWh battery – TBA range – 390 kW peak power

BMW Canada has confirmed the eDrive 50 and M50 models of the i4 are launching here.

Infotainment wise, the i4 will have a similar setup to the iX with a 12.3-inch driver display and 14.9-inch main screen, powered by iDrive 8.

The BMW i4 will be coming to Canada and the US in Q1 2022. The i4 eDrive40 starts at $54,990 CAD and the i4 M50 starts at $72,990 CAD.

Both i4 models are available for reservations from BMW’s website and dealers.
