Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 EV is coming to Canada this fall

Hyundai has announced that their all-electric Ioniq 5 is coming to Canada later this year and pre-orders start next month.

The Ioniq 5 is just one of three electric vehicles launching under their Ioniq brand announced last year. Following the Ioniq 5, will be the Ioniq 6 EV sedan in 2022 and the Ioniq 7 mid-size crossover in 2024.

The vehicle will be using Hyundai’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), which helps provide a fully flat interior floor.

Inside the Ioniq 5 are two 12-inch screens, one for the driver and one for the infotainment system, all under one piece of glass. There’s also a heads-up display with augmented reality.

The BlueLink infotainment system in the Ioniq 5 support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The interior of the vehicle uses recycled materials such as plastic bottles. For cargo space, there’s 531L (18.8 cu ft) behind the rear seats and 1,600 L (56.5 cu ft) total when the second row is folded.

For the Canadian version, the Ioniq 5 comes with a 58 kWh battery and a bigger 77.4 kWh battery. The vehicle is comes standard with rear-wheel drive (RWD) with all-wheel drive (AWD) as an option. Power output is around 225 to 320 horsepower and 258 and 446 lbs.-ft of torque.

Battery range on the Ioniq 5 can vary depending on model.

  • Essential (RWD) Standard Range – 354km
  • Preferred (RWD) Standard Range – 354km
  • Preferred (AWD) Long Range – 400km
  • Preferred (AWD) Long Range with Ultimate Package – 400km
  • Preferred (RWD) Long Range – 480km

The Ioniq will be available in a number of exterior colours including: Phantom Black (Pearl), Cyber Gray (Metallic), Atlas White (Solid), Digital Teal (Green Pearl), Lucid Blue (Pearl), and Shooting Star (Gray Matte).

Interior colour choices include: OIbsidian Black Monotone, Dark Pebble Gray/Dove Gray, Dark Teal/Dove Gray.

Canadian pricing for the Ioniq 5 will be announced closer to launch in the fall. Pre-orders for the EV will begin in June.
