The OnePlus 9 series and OnePlus Watch are now official

Following a few teases, OnePlus has officially unveiled their latest flagship smartphones with their OnePlus 9 Pro and OnePlus 9.

“The OnePlus 9 Series represents a key milestone for OnePlus flagship smartphones. Co-developed with Hasselblad, the new Hasselblad Camera for Mobile will give users the ability to capture their own iconic moments with more accurate colours and premium image quality,” said Pete Lau, Founder, CEO and Chief Product Officer of OnePlus. “Together with the new OnePlus Watch, our latest flagship smartphone series offers a burdenless user experience with even the smallest detail tailored to challenge the smartphone industry and empower our Community through premium technology.”

The OnePlus 9 Pro offers a 6.7-inch AMOLED with LTPO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) display with a resolution of 1440 x 3216 at 525 PPI.

The screen is be called Fluid Display 2.0 by OnePlus and offers a Smart 120Hz refresh rate. The LTPO technology (which was also on the Galaxy S21 Ultra’s display) helps provide a smooth scrolling experience while cutting down on the display’s power consumption by 50%.

The Smart 120Hz feature will automatically change the refresh rate to match what’s on screen, as low as 1Hz for things like reading and viewing photos.

Just like other Android flagships this year, the OnePlus 9 Pro is being powered by the Snapdragon 888 chip with 8 or 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM.

The phone is running OxygenOS 11 based on Android 11, which first debuted on the OnePlus 8T.

There’s also 128 or 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage, an in-display fingerprint sensor, face unlock, Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 6 and 5G.

Inside the OnePlus 9 Pro is a 4,500 mAh battery with Warp Charge 65T wired charging (you can get a full charge in just 29 mins) and Warp Charge 50 Wireless.

That means you can charge your phone wirelessly at up to 50W (compared to 30W wireless on the 8 Pro).

To get the 50W charging speeds, you’ll need the updated Warp 50 Wireless Charger, which looks exactly+ like the 30W model from last year.

As announced previously, the OnePlus 9 Pro is the first phone under their camera partnership with Hasselblad.

OnePlus Watch

OnePlus Watch

The OnePlus 9 series wasn’t the only thing the company announced, they also unveiled their first smartwatch with the OnePlus Watch.

The device has a 1.39-inch AMOLED display with a 326ppi. The design of the OnePlus Watch uses a 46mm case, stainless steel body and a 2.5D curved glass on the front.

It also has 5ATM and IP68 water and dust resistance, which should be fine for tracking swim workouts.

In addition to the Classic Edition, there will also be a Cobalt Limited Edition that uses cobalt alloy instead of stainless steel. Cobalt alloy is hypoallergenic and the display on the OnePlus Watch Colbalt Limited Edition uses sapphire glass with a Mohr rating of 9 for better brightness and scratch resistance.

The OnePlus Watch Colbalt Limited Edition comes with a leather band instead of a silicone one.

There’s also automatic workout detection, around 110 workout types, a heart rate monitor, stress tracking, and a SpO2 sensor. The watch also includes built-in GPS and will still track your activity when not connected to your phone.

OnePlus Watch

While some were expecting the watch to run Wear OS, the OnePlus Watch is running what’s called RTOS (Real-time operating system), similar to Huawei’s LiteOS.

There are 4GB (2GB of actual use) of internal storage and the 402 mAh battery lasts 14 days. The watch has OnePlus’ Warp Charge to get you 50% battery life in just 20 mins.
