IKEA has announced their gaming range of furniture including a collaboration with Asus’ ROG sub-brand.
The partnership between IKEA and Asus was announced a few months ago but now we’re seeing the first products from the deal.
”The needs of billions of gamers around the globe are very diverse, whereas the existing offer is rather technical and often perceived as masculine design-wise, despite around 46% of gamers being female. We believe there’s a lot to be done to democratize the gaming experience”, says Ewa Rychert, Global Business Leader of Workspace, IKEA of Sweden. ”Now we take the first step on our gaming journey, and we do it by presenting affordable, high-performing gaming products and complete solutions that we hope reflect people’s personality and taste”.
IKEA’s new gamer-focused furniture consists of six product lines: HUVUDSPELARE, UTESPELARE, MATCHSPEL, GRUPPSPEL, UPPSPEL, LÅNESPELARE.
Under the MATCHSPEL line, there’s a gaming chair that is reminiscent of IKEA’s previous Markus and Järvfjället chairs. This new chair has a mesh backing and tiltable headrest and comes in black/red or white/blue colour combos.
The UPPSPEL products were designed by Asus ROG and IKEA, while the rest of the gaming product lines are developed by IKEA itself.
“Gamers globally know and love the ROG brand and they trust it to deliver the most exciting gaming innovations in the market,” says Kris Huang, General Manager of the ASUS Gaming Gear and Accessory Business Unit. “Our new partnership with the experts at IKEA will allow ROG to find new and interesting ways to delight gamers in and around the home.”
Two products from the UPPSPEL line were shown off, first is a gaming desk which is a standing desk with electronic adjustment, a USB port for charging your phone and ROG branding on the legs.
The other product is a drawer unit on wheels, with two drawers with ROG branding on the handles, and a tray on top. The UPPSPEL products ranges in price from 599 CNY (around $117.88 CAD) to 5,597 CNY (around $1101.50CAD).
The LÅNESPELARE line has more accessories like a cup holder than attaches to your desk, a ring light & phone holder, a neck pillow and lastly, a multi-functional cushion/blanket. The LÅNESPELARE items ranges in price from 29 CNY (around $5.71 CAD) to 249 CNY (around $49 CAD).
The UTESPELARE has a gaming chair (which looks like most gaming chairs) and a gaming desk with height adjustable legs. The UTESPELARE lineup ranges in price from 699 CNY (around $137.56 CAD) to 1,598 CNY (around $314.49 CAD).
There’s more than 30 products from gaming desk, chairs to drawer units and accessories.
IKEA’s gaming products are now available in China. They’ll be launching in Japan in May and globally starting in October and into 2022.
IKEA has confirmed their gaming lineup will be coming to Canada but an exact launch date is being confirmed.
