Whether you’re a podcaster, musician or even a Twitch streamer, having great sounding audio can especially be important so your audience can hear you crisp and clearly. Gaming brand Elgato has recently launched their first microphones that are made for creators with their Wave series.
Speaking of podcasts, TheCanadianTechie has a podcast called Tech-nically Speaking, which you can find here.
Corsair (Elgato’s parent company) was kind enough to send their new Wave:3 microphone. There’s also a cheaper Wave:1 microphone but we’ll mostly be focusing on the Wave:3 here.
The Wave:3’s design has a rounded design while also being compact. The front of the mic has a dial that can be used to adjust the Mic Gain, Monitor Volume and Mic/PC Mix by pressing the button in.
Elgato recommends putting the mic around two fists away from yourself and the mic gain at 40% to start with but you can always adjust accordingly.
Above the dial are some LED indicators for when you’re changing the different settings. At the top of the mic is a mute button. On the back are a USB-C port and direct monitor/3.5mm audio jack.
To help keep your audio crisp, the Wave:3 features an internal pop filter but there is an external pop filter and shock mount accessories available.
The Wave:3 is considered a condenser microphone, meaning it uses a tight cardioid pattern and captures every vocal nuance. This means they also offer higher sensitivity and lower noise in the signal compared to dynamic mics.

The best part about the Wave:3 is that it is plug and play. Just connect the USB-C cable to your Windows PC or Mac and you’re able to start using it.
But if you want a bit more control, you can use Elgato’s Wave Link software which lets you have up to 8 channels, Stream Deck compatibility and uses very little of your CPU. Wave Link is available for Windows and Mac and only works with Elgato’s Wave:1 and Wave:3 mics.
Overall, the Wave:3 so far is great with its compact design, ease of use and free Wave Link software.

From now until January 31st, Elgato is running a worldwide promotion on their Wave:3 microphone. The mic will be 20% off of local MSRP in Canada (normally $219 CAD) and other regions and $20 off in the US (normally $159 USD).
You can pick up the Wave:3 from Elgato’s website for $199 CAD ($139 USD) by clicking the banner image below or here.
The Wave Pop Filter goes for $49 CAD ($29 USD) and the Shock Mount is $59 CAD ($39 USD).
