Samsung Galaxy S21 series officially announced

After numerous leaks, Samsung has officially unveiled its Galaxy S21 family of phones.

Just like previous models, the S21 family consists of three devices, the Galaxy S21, S21+ and S21 Ultra.

The S21 features a polycarbonate back while the S21+ and S21 Ultra has Gorilla Glass Victus. All three models will Gorilla Glass Victus on the display.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Series

The S21 has a 6.2-inch screen and the S21+ has a 6.7-inch, both are FHD+ resolution at a 120Hz refresh rate. Meanwhile, the S21 Ultra features a 6.8-inch WQHD+ screen at a 120Hz refresh rate.

Unlike past models, the S21 Ultra can have the screen at QHD resolution and 120Hz. Previously you were limited to FHD at 120Hz.

All three phones are powered by the 5nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor (in North America and certain international markets) with up to 16GB of RAM.

Storage options include 128 and 256GB but there is no microSD card slot on any model.

Just like the US models, the Canadian versions of the S21 series will have NFC for Samsung Pay but no MST support.

For battery, the S21 has a 4,000 mAh battery, S21+ with 4,800 mAh and S21 Ultra with 5,000 mAh.

In terms of cameras, the S21 and S21+ have a triple-camera setup with a 12MP ultrawide, 12MP wide-angle and 64MP telephoto, along with a 10MP front camera.

The S21 Ultra features a quad camera setup, with a 12MP ultrawide, 108MP wide-angle and two 10MP telephoto lenses. The front camera is 40MP.

You can shoot in up to 4K 60fps using all the lenses on the S21 Ultra.

All models get IP68 water and dust resistance, Fast Wireless Charging, Super Fast Charging, Wireless PowerShare, in-display fingerprint sensor and speakers by AKG.

The S21+ has an Ultra Wide Band (UWB) support and the S21 Ultra features S Pen, Wi-Fi 6E and UWB support.

Since S Pen support is being added to the S Series, TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile Communications Business at Samsung issued the following statement about the Note series.

“We are committed to innovating new mobile experiences that flow seamlessly and continuously to make our consumers’ lives easier and better. We’ve made the bold decision to expand the S Pen experience to Galaxy S21 Ultra, and plan to expand the S Pen experience across additional device categories in the future. We remain committed to providing the best mobile experience to our consumers and will continue to actively listen and consider consumer feedback in our product innovations.”

The S Pen comes with the Silicone and Clear View cases for the S21 Ultra. It does not come with the phone in the box.

The phones are running Android 11 with OneUI 3.1 on top. These devices are expected to get three major Android OS upgrades, so they’ll most likely get at least Android 14.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra (Black) with Galaxy Buds Pro & Galaxy Watch 3

The S21 will be available in Phantom Pink, Phantom Violet, Phantom Black and Phantom Silver. The S21+ comes in the same options as the S21 but minus the Phantom Pink.

The S21 Ultra will come in Phantom Black and Phantom Silver.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra (Black & Silver)

The Galaxy S21 series is launching on January 29th.

Here’s the Canadian pricing for the S21 series.

  • 256GB/8GB RAM – $1,199 CAD

Galaxy S21+

  • 128GB/8GB RAM – $1,329 CAD
  • 256GB/8GB RAM – $1,469 CAD

Galaxy S21 Ultra

  • 128GB/12GB RAM – $1,649 CAD
  • 256GB/12GB RAM – $1,719 CAD
  • 512GB/16GB RAM – $1,889 CAD

For those that pre-order the S21 Ultra between January 14th and January 28th, you’ll get a voucher for a Galaxy Buds Pro and Galaxy SmartTag.

Galaxy S21 & S21+ pre-orders will get a voucher for a pair of Galaxy Buds Live and Galaxy SmartTag.

Pre-orders for the S21 series is available now from Samsung’s website.

Galaxy Buds Pro

Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro (All Colours)

The new Galaxy Buds Pro are a mix of the standard Galaxy Buds and the Galaxy Buds Live.

The earbuds feature Active Noise Cancellation that cuts up to 99% of external background noise.

In terms of battery life, the Galaxy Buds Pro get 5 hrs with ANC on and 8 hrs with ANC off. There’s an additional 28 hrs of charge from the case.

They’ll come in Phantom Violet, Phantom Black and Phantom Silver colour options.

The Galaxy Buds Pro will retail for $264.99 CAD.

Galaxy SmartTag

Galaxy SmartTag (Black)

Samsung is also launching the Galaxy SmartTag in Canada. It’s essentially Samsung’s answer to the Tile Bluetooth trackers.

Galaxy SmartTag (Oatmeal)

The Galaxy SmartTag will cost $65.99 CAD for 2-pack and $39.99 CAD for a 1-pack.
