The PlayStation 5 launches on November 12th [Update: Pre-orders live]

During their latest PS5 showcase, Sony has officially a release date and price for their upcoming PlayStation 5 console, as well as some more games.

Back in June, Sony announced that the PS5 will come in two variants, the standard version and the PlayStation Digital version.

The box itself is quite a departure from past PlayStation consoles, which had a more boxy/squarish design. The PS5’s design is much more rounded and uses the same black/white/blue colour scheme found on the new DualSense controller.

The PlayStation 5 uses a custom CPU based on AMD’s Ryzen line and a GPU using their Navi lineup.

The upcoming console will feature a next-gen solid-state drive (SSD), can read 100GB Blu-ray discs and the console can be used as a 4K Blu-ray player. There will also be support for ray-tracing and 8K video output.

The standard PS5 will cost $629 CAD ($499 USD) and the digital version will retail for $499 CAD ($399 USD).

In addition to the console, Sony has announced pricing for some of its PS5 accessories, which will launch alongside the console in November.

The PS5 will be launching on November 12th (just two days after the Xbox Series X & S) in Canada, the US, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea.

A week later on November 19th, the PS5 will be launching in the rest of the world. The console will be coming to China at a later date.
