GoPro’s Hero lineup of cameras has always been great at capturing stuff in the moment. But with their upcoming Hero9 Black, it has a feature that vloggers will appreciate.
The bottom fold-out mounts on the Hero8, make a return on the Hero9 Black. Presumably, the battery door/compartment hasn’t changed either.
And while GoPros have always had a display on the front, it’s been a monochrome one that shows things like capture mode and recording time. However, for the Hero9 Black, the camera will have a colour display on the front.
While we don’t know the exact functionality of this colour screen, it could be used to show a live preview of what your camera sees. This in turn would be perfect for those using a GoPro to shoot vlog-style footage.
The DJI Osmo Action from last year had a 1.4-inch screen and it seems GoPro is following suit.
WinFuture also says the new Hero9 Black will be able to shoot 5K video. The exact frame rate is still unknown but it’s still a slight setup from the 4K video on past GoPros.
Pricing and availability are still unknown at this point but we should know more in the next few weeks. GoPro has been known to announce its new camera models at the end of September with an October release date.
Update – September 6th, 2020: WinFuture has leaked more images of the upcoming Hero9 Black, which confirms some details about the camera.
The first is that the camera will be capable of shooting up to 5K video at 30 fps in addition to 4K60 and also 20MP still images.
The camera will also feature HyperSmooth 3.0 stabilization, TimeWarp 3.0 and a Webcam Mode. There will also be a carrying case available as part of a bundle.
The battery life in the Hero9 Black will also be improved, thanks for the new 1720 mAh battery. The new larger battery also brings a new dual charging dock.
