EA alongside its Motive Studios and Lucasfilm have jointly announced a new Star Wars game called Star Wars: Squadrons.
“We created this game for every Star Wars fan who has ever dreamt about soaring across the galaxy in their favourite starfighter,” said Ian Frazier, Creative Director, Motive Studios. “Through the collaboration of the teams at Motive and Lucasfilm, we’ve been able to create a high-fidelity starfighter experience with an authentic storyline that invites Star Wars fans to explore never-before-seen corners of the galaxy in their own ship. We’re excited to show all this in action this week at EA Play Live.”

In Squadrons, you’ll play as a starfighter pilot (either as part of the New Republic or Imperial) and take part in 5v5 space battles across the galaxy.

You’ll be able to take control of a variety of ships including X-Wing, A-Wing, Y-Wing, U-Wing, TIE Fighter, TIE Interceptor, TIE Bomber, and TIE Reaper fighters.

There will also be cosmetic and gameplay customizations to change the look of your pilot and ship.
The game features a single-player story that takes place after the events of the Battle of Endor (as seen in Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi). According to EA, “Through the story, players will learn what it means to be a pilot as they battle from the alternating perspectives of two customizable pilots, one serving in the New Republic’s heroic Vanguard Squadron, while the other fights for the Galactic Empire’s fearsome Titan Squadron.”
Star Wars: Squadrons is set to launch on October 2nd for Xbox One, PS4, PC (via Origin, Steam and the Epic Games Store). There will also be cross-play support and VR support.
The game is available for pre-order now for $54.99 CAD ($$39.99).
