Samsung brings their Galaxy Book laptops to Canada [Update: Now available]

After a five year hiatus, Samsung is bringing their laptops back to Canada with the Galaxy Book S, Galaxy Book Flex and Galaxy Book Ion.

The Galaxy Book Ion is Samsung’s top of the line laptop meant for those who want all the power.

Powering the laptop is 10th Gen Intel Core i5 or i7 processors and up to 16GB of RAM with additional slots for RAM and SSD.

The laptop has a fingerprint reader for Windows Hello login and Wi-Fi 6 support for faster internet.

The Galaxy Book Ion comes with a QLED display in 13.3- and 15-inches options. The speakers are tuned by AKG for richer sound.

Battery life on the Galaxy Book Ion is up to 22 hours, which should be perfect for daily usage. For ports, the Galaxy Book Ion has Thunderbolt 3 USB-C ports, USB-A, HDMI, microSD card slot and headphone/mic jack.

While the Ion uses a standard laptop charger, the device can also be charged over USB-C with fast charge support. You can get up to 4 hours of battery life in just 30 minutes of charging.

The laptop comes in one colour, Aura Silver.

The Galaxy Book Ion will be launching on June 5th at select Canadian retailers. Pre-orders are available now from Samsung’s website for both the 13.3-inch and 15.6-inch.

Galaxy Book Flex

Samsung is calling its Galaxy Book Flex the “Galaxy Note” equivalent of laptops. That’s because the device includes a built-in S Pen, the same one featured on the Note 10+ & Note 10 last year.

That means it has support for Air Actions and apps like Penup or Samsung Note app. Samsung said they’ve worked with Google, Netflix and Microsoft to ensure S Pen compatibility in their apps and sites like YouTube.

Powering the Galaxy Book Flex is the 10th Gen Intel i5 or i7 chips with up to 16GB of RAM.

As the name implies, the Flex has a 360-degree hinge so you can the device in different modes like tablet mode, tent mode or traditional laptop mode.

Just like the Ion, the Galaxy Book Flex has support for Gigabit Wi-Fi 6 support and fingerprint reader for Windows Hello and there’s also a fast NVMe SSD inside (up to 1TB).

For ports, there are 2 Thunderbolt 3 USB-C and standard USB-C, microSD card slot and headphone/mic jack.

Both the Ion and the Flex have Wireless Powershare where the trackpad is, so you can wirelessly charge your devices just like on the latest Galaxy S phones. Just press Fn + F11 to turn it off and on.

The Galaxy Book Flex comes with a QLED display in 13.3- and 15-inches options. The speakers are tuned by AKG for richer sound. Battery life is around 22 hours on the Flex.

The Galaxy Book S is like the Galaxy S phones with its slim form factor. Powering the Galaxy Book S is the 10th Gen Intel Core i5 which has a fanless design.

The laptop packs a 13.3-inch screen with up to 16GB of RAM along with Wi-Fi 6 support. There’s also a fingerprint reader for Windows Hello and the speakers are tuned by AKG.

The Galaxy Book S has USB-C ports (but aren’t Thunderbolt 3) but they do support fast charging like the other Galaxy Books. Meaning you can get 4 hours of battery life in just 30 mins. Samsung is packing in an adapter that includes USB-A and HDMI in the box.

Battery life on the Galaxy Book S is around 20 hours. While the US got an LTE variant of the Galaxy Book S, that won’t model won’t be coming to Canada.

However, Samsung Canada has said future models could pack 5G connectivity once 5G networks improve.

  • 13.3”/8G/512GB – $1,359 CAD (Earth Gold) – Costco Canada Exclusive

The Galaxy Book S is launching in Canada on June 5th at select retailers. Pre-orders are available now from Samsung’s website.

Update – June 5th, 2020: The Galaxy Book Flex and Galaxy Book Ion are now available for purchase in Canada.

You can buy the Flex and Ion from Samsung.ca (starts shipping on June 20th), Samsung Experience Stores and major retailers across Canada such as Costco, Best Buy, Staples, Amazon, Walmart and The Source.

The Galaxy Book S will be available for purchase at a later date but pre-orders are available from Samsung’s website with a July 4th ship date.
