HP announces the all-new OMEN Desktop and 27i Gaming Monitor

Despite the current situation in the world, HP has announced two new products in their OMEN lineup with the new OMEN Desktop and OMEN 27i Gaming Monitor.

“The OMEN brand continues to evolve its identity and grow a world-class ecosystem of hardware and software solutions in meaningful ways that address the needs of all gamers, especially at a time when socially connecting from home with friends and loved ones is so important,” said Kevin Frost, vice president and general manager, Consumer Personal Systems, HP Inc. “The latest OMEN Gaming Desktop adds components from Cooler Master, WD_Black from Western Digital, and expanded options from HyperX which reinforces our commitment toward
providing the best tools for progressing in your favourite games.”

HP OMEN 25L & 30L Desktop

For those looking for a good gaming PC, HP has two options for you with their OMEN 25L and OMEN 30L desktops. The standard OMEN 25L has an RGB LED front logo, brushed-texture front bezel, 15mm rubber feet, air-cooled CPU and metal side door.

There’s also a version of the OMEN 25L with a liquid-cooled CPU, EMI-coated glass side door and internal RGB LED lighting.

The OMEN 30L has an RGB LED front logo, tempered-glass front bezel, 15mm rubber feet, liquid-cooled CPU, EMI-coated glass side door, internal RGB, enhanced thermal and 120mm front RGB system fan.

The new OMEN desktop is set to replace the existing OMEN Obelisk (HP says the Obelisk is sticking around until the end of the year).

The desktop was made for expansion with tool-less access. The OMEN Gaming Desktop can be configured up to an Intel Core i9-10900K (with optional Wi-Fi 6) or up to an AMD Ryzen 9 3900 processor.

For a few of the components of the OMEN Desktop, HP teamed up with HyperX for the RAM, Cooler Master for the power supply and Western Digital for storage.

The computer can be configured with up to 16GB of HyperX RAM but it supports up to 32GB unbuffered.

For storage, HP is using WD_Black hard drives and SSDs in the desktop.

“OMEN was created by HP to enhance gamers’ experiences, an approach that we at Western Digital share when designing our high-performance WD_Black line of storage products,” said Eric Spanneut, vice president and general manager, Client Computing Business Unit, Western Digital. “WD_Black for OMEN NVMe SSD continues this product pedigree, providing purpose-built storage in a best-of-breed gaming system.”

For ports, the OMEN desktop has the following:

• 6 SuperSpeed USB Type-A at 5 Gbps
• Headphone/mic jack
• 1 SuperSpeed USB Type-A at 10 Gbps
• 1 SuperSpeed USB-C at 10 Gbps
• HDMI
• DisplayPort
• DVI-D

For GPUs, HP offers up to an Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti or an AMD Radeon RX5700 XT. The company says you can mix and match when configuring, so you could have an Intel CPU and AMD GPU or AMD CPU and an Nvidia GPU.

The OMEN 25L Desktop starts at $899 USD and the OMEN 30L Desktop starts at $1,199 USD. The OMEN 25L starts at $1,899 CAD and the OMEN 30L starts at $2,999 CAD, both will be available from Best Buy Canada in July/August (but no product pages are live yet).

HP OMEN 27i Gaming Monitor

Alongside the new desktop, HP announced the OMEN 27i Gaming Monitor.

It has a 27-inch display at a resolution of 2560 x 1440 at 165Hz, 1ms response time and is a nano IPS panel. For ports, the display has 1 DisplayPort 1.2, HDMI 2.0, 2 USB 3.0 upstream ports, 3.5 mm audio jack and 1 USB 3.0 downstream port.

The display is Nvidia G-Sync compatible using the DisplayPort. The back of the monitor has RGB lighting that can be controlled via OMEN Command Center.

The OMEN 27i Gaming Monitor costs $799 CAD ($499 USD) and is available now in the US and will be available from Best Buy Canada in July/August.

OMEN Command Center

In addition to the new desktop and monitor, HP has given its OMEN Command Center software a refresh. The new interface is much faster and striking.

There are three sections to OMEN Command Center, My Games, My Gear and My Services.

My Games will show you all the games installed on your PC from Steam, Epic Games Store, EA Origin, Uplay and more. That way all your games are just a click away.

My Gear will let you adjust settings of your OMEN PC such as lighting, fans and more.

My Services is where you’ll find OMEN rewards and Remote Play (formerly Game Stream), which lets you stream games installed on your OMEN PC to your Android or iOS device.

The new OMEN Command Center is available now and the app is now available from the Microsoft Store.
