Disney has announced they are moving up the release of Frozen 2 about three months ahead of schedule.
The film just recently launched on home video and digitally and was set to come to Disney+ sometime in June.
“Frozen 2 has captivated audiences around the world through its powerful themes of perseverance and the importance of family, messages that are incredibly relevant during this time, and we are pleased to be able to share this heartwarming story early with our Disney+ subscribers to enjoy at home on any device,” said Bob Chapek, Chief Executive Officer, The Walt Disney Company.
According to Disney:
Frozen 2 follows Elsa, together with Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven, on a remarkable and inspiring journey into the unknown to discover the source of her magical powers and save the kingdom of Arendelle
The animated film joins Captain Marvel, Dumbo, Aladdin, The Lion King, Toy Story 4 and the rest of Disney’s 2019 films to become available on their streaming service.
Frozen 2 will be available on Disney+ in the US on Sunday, March 15th, followed by Canada, the Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand on Tuesday, March 17th.
Disney will also be releasing documentary series about the making of the film called Into the Unknown: Making Frozen 2, which is set to launch this year on Disney+ but no official release has been announced.
Disney+ is still scheduled to launch in the UK, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Austria on March 24th, 2020. It’ll be followed by a launch in India on March 29th, 2020 and more European countries in mid-2020.
The film will be available to stream in HD and 4K UHD (on compatible devices) and has grossed more than $1.449 billion at the box office.
In addition to Frozen 2‘s Disney+ debut, the company also announced that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is now available for purchase digitally on platforms such as iTunes and Google Play.
The final Skywalker saga film was set to launch digitally on March 17th followed by the Blu-ray/DVD release on March 31st.
The Rise of Skywalker is still set to launch on Disney+ later this year but no release date has been announced.
