Fiat Chrysler (FCA) has announced an updated version of their infotainment system with Uconnect 5.
Uconnect 5 is now based on Android just like the likes of Volvo’s latest version of Sensus.
Personalization is a big part of Uconnect 5, thanks to the ability to create up to five different user profiles. Each one with specific driver preferences like music, vehicle systems like mirrors, seating positions and more.

The new update also introduces a card-based homescreen that gives it a cleaner and fresh look and easily accessible.
Performance shouldn’t be an issue as Uconnect 5 now has an upgraded 50K MIP chip, 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Uconnect 5 supports screen sizes up to 12.3-inches and 15 million pixels of resolution in Ultra HD.

Amazon Alexa is now integrated into Uconnect 5, meaning you can ask Alexa to play music, podcasts, check the weather, traffic and much more. If you have an Alexa-enabled device like an Echo, you can enable the Uconnect skill and start, unlock/lock your vehicle with your voice.
Alongside Alexa, Uconnect 5 also comes with a new voice recognition engine and software that allows you to talk naturally. There is also a new wake word by saying “Hey Chrysler”.

Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are still on board in Uconnect 5 along with wireless projection support for both. There’s also support to connect two Bluetooth phones at the same time.
The navigation in Uconnect 5 uses TomTom which includes traffic, EV and connected services and more.

Firmware updates for Uconnect 5 will come over-the-air (OTA).
FCA says that the new Uconnect 5 system will be available to owners in more than 150 countries.
The company hasn’t said which existing or new vehicles will be getting the Uconnect 5 update.
