After being announced at Oculus Connect 6, the company has officially launched the beta of their Oculus Link software.
Oculus Link allows you to use your PC to play Rift games on your Oculus Quest headset.
Rift games such as Stormland or Asgard’s Wrath are now playable on Quest thanks to the Link software.
No need for external sensors, just your Oculus Quest, a USB-C 3.0 cable and a compatible PC.
It’s worth noting that even though the Quest comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable, it only is the USB 2.0 spec. USB 3.0 cables support both power and data.
To use Oculus Link on your PC with Quest, you’ll need a USB-C to USB-C 3.0 cable or USB-C to USB-A 3.0 cable. There are a few cable options out there but Oculus recommends this 10ft Anker USB-C 3.0 cable.
Oculus will be making its own Oculus Link cable that is 5 meters (16 ft) in length , has a right angle USB-C connector and supports the USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C spec and be available in limited quantities later this year. Then wider availability for the cable in 2020.
No pricing has been announced for the Oculus Link cable.
