Apple’s new MacBook Pro has a 16-inch Retina Display and an all-new keyboard

Apple has officially announced the long-rumoured 16-inch MacBook Pro.

The new MacBook Pro 16″ takes the place of the outgoing 15-inch model. It has a 16-inch, 500 nits, P3 wide colour gamut Retina Display with a resolution of 3072 x 1920.

That produces a pixel density of 226 PPI to produce more than 6 million pixels.

“Our pro customers tell us they want their next MacBook Pro to have a larger display, blazing-fast performance, the biggest battery possible, the best notebook keyboard ever, awesome speakers and massive amounts of storage, and the 16-inch MacBook Pro delivers all of that and more,” said Tom Boger, Apple’s senior director of Mac and iPad Product Marketing. “With its brilliant 16-inch Retina display, 8-core processors, next-gen pro graphics, even better thermal design, new Magic Keyboard, six-speaker sound system, 100Wh battery, up to 8TB of storage and 64GB of fast memory, the 16-inch MacBook Pro is the world’s best pro notebook.”

Apple has heard your complaints about their butterfly keyboard and the new 16-inch MacBook Pro has a redesigned scissor mechanism that offers 1mm of travel.

The new laptop also comes with a six-speaker sound system, 100Wh battery (that provides up to 11 hours of battery life), Touch Bar with Touch ID, Force Touch trackpad and T2 security chip.

The new MacBook Pro comes with a 6-core 9th Gen Intel Core i7 and can be configured with an 8-core Intel Core i9.

There’s 512GB, 1TB, 2TB, 4TB and 8TB SSD options and up to 64GB of DDR4 RAM.

For graphics, there is an AMD Radeon Pro 5300M with 4GB of GDDR6 memory but it’s configurable up to an AMD Radeon Pro 5500M with 8GB of GDDR6 memory.

For ports, the laptop includes four Thunderbolt 3 USB-C ports that all support charging, DisplayPort and USB 3.1 Gen 2. There is no SD card slot but there is a headphone jack.

The device is running macOS Catalina which supports features like Dark Mode, Sidecar and more.

The new 16-inch MacBook Pro is available now from Apple’s website. It starts at $2,999 CAD for the base configuration. The topped-out version costs $7,459 CAD.

In addition to the 16-inch MacBook Pro, Apple also finally announced a release date for its new Mac Pro.

The new Mac Pro and Pro Display XDR are set to release in December starting at $5,999 USD and $4,999 respectively. Apple hasn’t given any Canadian pricing yet.
