LG G8X ThinQ comes to Canada starting November 1st

LG has announced that its latest Android flagship, the G8X ThinQ will be coming to Canada in November.

The G8X ThinQ has a few tricks up its sleeve compared to the G8 ThinQ from earlier this year.

For starters, the G8X has a 6.4-inch FHD+ OLED Full Vision display compared to 6.1-inches along with a 4,000 mAh battery. That has a resolution of 2340 x 1080 with 403 PPI.

Storage on the G8X has stayed the same at 128GB of internal space (plus a microSD card slot) and 6GB of RAM.

For cameras, the G8X has a 12MP standard lens and 13MP Super Wide lens at 136-degrees.

It’s being powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor and runs Android 9 Pie with Android 10 confirmed for the device but at a later date.

There’s also an in-display fingerprint sensor, stereo speakers, 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC and DTS:X 3D Surround Sound and IP68 water and dust resistance.

“The introduction of LG G8XThinQ and LG Dual Screen enables us to be part of the conversation around larger mobile displays but at a much more price-friendly entry point,” said Morris Lee, senior vice president at LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “From the industry’s first wide-angle camera in a smartphone, rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and optical gesture control, LG continues to push the boundaries of smartphone innovation and this continues with LG G8XThinQ Dual Screen.”

The most unique feature about the G8X is the Dual Screen attachment that basically adds a second 6.4-inch OLED display to your phone.

The Dual Screen accessory has a 360 Freestop Hinge and can be put at any angle and uses a USB-C to magnet contact adapter to charge the attachment. When you close the attachment, the other side of the Dual Screen has a small 2.1-inch monochrome display that can show you the time and notifications.

The Dual Screen attachment brings a number of use cases including playing games with a controller layout on the second screen, a full-screen virtual keyboard and many more.

LG says they are working with developers to get more apps supporting the Dual Screen with the G8X.

For those purchasing the LG G8X ThinQ, you’ll get the Dual Screen attachment for free.

The LG G8X ThinQ and Dual Screen attachment will be available from a number of carriers and retailers in Canada including:

  • Bell
  • Eastlink
  • Freedom Mobile
  • Koodo
  • Sasktel
  • Tbooth Wireless
  • Telus
  • The Mobile Shop
  • Videotron
  • Virgin Mobile
  • Wireless Wave
  • Xplore Mobile

The phone is around $1,299 CAD off-contract but also available for $0 on select two-year plans.

The phone launches on November 1st in Canada, the US and countries such as Brazil, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Spain and Turkey in the coming weeks.
