Lenovo announces the all-new Smart Display 7 & more at IFA 2019

Lenovo has announced a successor to their original Lenovo Smart Displays with the new Smart Display 7.

Lenovo Smart Display 7

The Lenovo Smart Display 7 is smaller than the 8-inch and 10-inch Lenovo Smart Displays but the bezels are slimmer than before. The front has some fabric accents reminiscent of the Lenovo Smart Clock.

The 7-inch screen has a resolution of 1024 x 600, so not exact HD and an ambient light sensor. Inside you’ll find a 1.5GHz MediaTek 6167S processor, Bluetooth 5.0, two 1.5″ 5W stereo speakers, passive radiator and a dual microphone array.

The 2-megapixel camera on the front can be used to make Google Duo calls along with a TrueBlock Privacy Shuter and physical mute button.

Just like the previous Smart Display, the new one has the Google Assistant built-in, so you can control your smart home and ask Google whatever questions.

The Lenovo Smart Display 7 will launch in October for $129 USD. Canadian pricing and availability to be confirmed.

Lenovo Smart Tab M8

The company also announced the Smart Tab M8 which is similar to the Alexa-enabled Android tablets launched earlier this year.

The tablet has an 8-inch IPS display and is powered by the MediaTek A22 Tab Quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM and a 5,000 mAh battery.

When the Lenovo Smart Tab M8 is docked, you can use the tablet as a Google Assistant Smart Display with the new Ambient Mode.

Canadian pricing or availability hasn’t been announced for the Lenovo Smart Tab M8 but it’ll launch in the US in October for $119 USD.

Lenovo Yoga Smart Tab

The Yoga Smart Tab is another Android tablet but it has a 10.1-inch FHD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 processor, up to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

There’s also a built-in kickstand, 7,000 mAh battery, USB-C port and 2 2W JBL speakers with Dolby Atmos.

Just like the new Smart Tab M8, the Yoga Smart Tab can use the Google Assistant’s new Ambient Mode and act as a Google Home/Smart Display.

The Yoga Smart Tab is set to launch later this month for $249 USD in the US. Canadian pricing or availability hasn’t been announced yet.

Lenovo Mirage AR: Marvel Dimension of Heroes

After the launch of Star Wars: Jedi Challenges back in 2017, Lenovo and Marvel are now teaming up for Marvel Dimension of Heroes.

This new augmented reality experience uses your smartphone along with the Lenovo Mirage AR headset and the new dual Universal Controllers.

Marvel Dimension of Heroes comes with three modes.

The first is Story Mode where “Dread Dormammu, Lord of the Dark Dimension, launches a surprise attack on Earth with his alliance of Super Villains, including Loki, Ronan the Accuser, Ultron Prime and the Winter Soldier. With the Earth in ruins, Doctor Strange manages to turn back time to secure a second chance to save the planet. Players assume the role of all of the game’s six playable Super Heroes to battle the interdimensional forces that threaten the world.”

Survival Mode will let you face-off against waves of enemies and use the powers from the game’s six heroes.

“Lenovo Mirage AR with MARVEL Dimension of Heroes is another milestone demonstrating Lenovo and Marvel’s shared passion for bringing rich, immersive consumer experiences to life through smarter technology. After years of close collaboration with Disney starting from Star Wars: Jedi Challenges, we’re excited to expand this incredibly fun and interactive experience for more gamers and especially Marvel fans to enjoy,” said Johnson Jia, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Consumer Business of Intelligent Devices Group, Lenovo.

The final one is Co-Op Mode that lets you partner up with a friend, where you each take control of a Marvel hero to defeat the forces of evil.

To use the Co-Op Mode, each player will need a Lenovo Mirage AR headset, two Universal Controllers, one Tracking Beacon and on the same Wi-Fi network and have the latest version of the companion app.

You’ll also be able to use the new Universal Controllers for the headset in a future update for Star Wars: Jedi Challenges, at no additional cost.

The Lenovo Mirage AR headset with Controllers and Tracking Beacon is available now in the US for $249 USD from the company’s website.

Canadian pricing and availability to be confirmed.
