Just six months after the release of the first model and Samsung has already announced its successor with the Galaxy Watch Active2.
“The smartwatch market is rapidly growing, and we at Samsung are excited to continually expand our presence in new and visionary ways,” said DJ Koh, President and CEO of IT & Mobile Communications Division, Samsung Electronics. “With Galaxy Watch Active2, we have created a device that will enable consumers to take control of their health and wellness, and seamlessly flow between their devices and connect across the Samsung Galaxy ecosystem, making their lives easier and better.”
As the name implies, the Galaxy Watch Active2 is a fitness-focused watch but now it comes with a rotating touch bezel, that works similar to the physical one found on standard Galaxy Watch.
The Galaxy Watch Active2comes in different materials and colours including lightweight aluminum with a casual Fluoroelastomer (FKM) band or stainless steel with a leather strap. Best of all, the bands on the Galaxy Watch Active2 are swappable, so you can change them at any point.
“At Samsung, we’re committed to bringing Canadians innovative products that offer an added level of convenience and seamless connectivity to their day-to-day lives,” said Jennifer Safruk, Vice President, Mobile Business, Samsung Canada. “Galaxy Watch Active2 is designed to help consumers live a balanced life and customize their wellness goals and design tastes.”
Colours for the Alumium and FKM version include Cloud Silver, Aqua Black and Pink Gold. While the Stainless Steel comes in Silver, Black and Gold.
The watch also comes in two sizes, 44mm and 40mm, the original Galaxy Watch Active was 42mm.
The Galaxy Watch Active2 has a 1.2-inch Super AMOLED display and 247mAh battery on the 40mm model and 1.4-inch display and 340 mAh battery on the 44mm. There’s also WPC-based wireless charging and it’s rated at 5ATM & IP68 water and dust resistance.
Powering the watch is the Samsung Exynos 9110 dual-core processor along with 768MB of RAM (the LTE model of the Galaxy Watch Active2 gets 1.5GB of RAM).
In terms of sensors, the Galaxy Watch Active2 has a heart rate monitor, Electrocardiogram (ECG), Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Barometer and Ambient Light.
The watch can manually track more than 39 workouts and seven of which can be automatically activated. There’s even sleep tracking on the Galaxy Watch Active2.
There’s also Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi b/g/, A-GPS and NFC for Samsung Pay.
The Bluetooth only version of the Galaxy Watch Active2 is set to arrive in September for $369 CAD ($279 USD) for the 40mm version and $399 CAD ($299 USD) for the 44mm version.
Pre-orders for the Galaxy Watch Active2 Bluetooth Edition begin on August 21st and you’ll get a bonus Wireless Battery Pack (valued at $79 CAD) with your pre-order.
The Galaxy Watch Active2 LTE edition will launch in Canada in October 2019, with pricing and carriers confirmed closer to launch.
The original Galaxy Watch Active currently goes for $299 CAD in Canada.
