Get ready to assemble the Avengers when Square Enix and Crystal Dynamic’s Marvel’s Avengers game arrives next year.
Back in 2017, Square Enix and Marvel announced a multi-year deal that would see the two companies collaborate on games based on Marvel properties.
The first game to come out of the partnership is Marvel’s Avengers. Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics along with Eidos-Montreal and Nixxes Software is working on the game.
According to Square Enix,
Marvel’s Avengers begins at A-Day, where Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor are unveiling a hi-tech Avengers Headquarters in San Francisco — including the reveal of their own helicarrier powered by an experimental energy source. The celebration turns deadly when a catastrophic accident results in massive devastation. Blamed for the tragedy, the Avengers disband. Five years later, with all Super Heroes outlawed and the world in peril, the only hope is to reassemble Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
The story is completely original with high-octane action that was designed to be delivered over multiple years.
You’ll be able to play as your favourite Avenger with up to four players online and Crystal Dynamics will be adding regular free content updates in the form of new heroes and regions.
There will also be no random loot boxes or pay-to-win scenarios.
The game will feature the voice talents of video game veterans such as Troy Baker (who will play Bruce Banner/Hulk), Nolan North (as Tony Stark/Iron Man), Laura Bailey (Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow), Travis Willingham (as Thor) and Jeff Schine (as Steve Rogers/Captain America).
Marvel’s Avengers is set to launch on September 4th, 2020 for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Google Stadia. PS4 owners will get access to the game’s beta.
Update – January 14th, 2020: Square Enix has delayed its Marvel’s Avengers game by four months to September 4th, 2020. This article has been updated to reflect that.
