Xbox E3 2019 Briefing Announcements: Project Scarlett, tons of games & more

Microsoft showed off a lot at their Xbox E3 2019 Briefing including next-gen hardware with Project Scarlett and upcoming games for Xbox One and PC.

Project Scarlett

Microsoft’s next generation of Xbox hardware has been codenamed, Project Scarlett.

It uses the latest, custom-design AMD Zen 2 processor and Radeon RDN architecture. There’s GDDR6 memory, next-gen solid state drive (SSD) to help with hardware accelerated raytracing, variable refresh rate, ultra-low latency input and 8K.

Project Scarlett is set to arrive Holiday 2020.

Double Fine Productions joins Xbox Game Studios

Microsoft announced that Double Fine Productions will be joining the Xbox Game Studios (formerly Microsoft Game Studios) family.

Double Fine joins recent additions such as The Initiative, Playground Games, Ninja Theory, Undead Labs, Obsidian Entertainment and Compulsion Games.

Double Fine’s upcoming Psychonauts 2 is set to be released for Xbox One, Windows 10, Mac, Linux and PlayStation 4 in 2020.

Project xCloud Updates

Project xCloud will use a combination of your console and Microsoft’s servers to stream the game. Your entire Xbox One game library and Xbox Game Pass titles will be available to stream.

Microsoft’s cloud streaming platform, Project xCloud will let players stream games from your Xbox One to a mobile device starting this October.

Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2

The company also announced an update to their Xbox Elite controller with the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2.

The new controller has been re-engineered for improved performance, customization and durability. There are more than 30 new and improved features such as adjustable-tension thumbsticks, wraparound grip, shorter hair-trigger lock.

You can expect up to 40 hours of battery life, Bluetooth connectivity and a USB-C port.

The Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 is set to be released on November 5th in 24 markets for $229 CAD ($179 USD) with pre-orders available now.

Cyberpunk 2077

The highly-anticipated game from CD Projekt Red has been given a new trailer and an official release date of April 16th, 2020 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

The game will also feature John Wick himself, Keanu Reeves who will play Johnny Silverhand by providing his appearance, voice and full-motion capture in Cyberpunk 2077.

The standard version comes with the game, a digital copy of the soundtrack, Cyberpunk 2020 Sourcebook, Art Booklet and Wallpapers.

The Collector’s Edition of Cyberpunk 2077 comes with everything in the standard edition plus a 25 cm/10 inch statue of the game’s protagonist, a steelbook case, hardcover art book, stickers and much more.

Forza Horizon 4 LEGO Speed Champions Expansion

The second expansion for Forza Horizon 4 will bring Lego to the award-winning game.

You’ll be able to explore a Lego-themed world, discover new Brick Challenges and race in the new Lego Speed Champions cars such as the McLaren Senna, Ferrari F40 Competizione and 1967 Mini Coop S Rally.

Forza Horizon 4 LEGO Speed Champions Expansion launches worldwide on June 13th for Xbox One and PC.

Gears 5

The next entry in the Gears series, Gears 5 is set to arrive on September 10th.

Those who pre-order the game will get the Terminator Dark Fate character pack which gives you the Terminator T-800 Endoskeleton and Sarah Conner from the upcoming film.

Halo Infinite

Microsoft also showed off a new trailer for Halo Infinite which will be a launch title for Project Scarlett and also release for Xbox One and PC.

Halo Infinite launches in Holiday 2020.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

You’ll soon be able to play all nine Star Wars films from Episode One: The Phantom Menace to the upcoming Episode Nine: The Rise of Skywalker.

The game will be releasing in 2020 for Xbox One (with Xbox One X enhancements), PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Minecraft Dungeons

Minecraft Dungeons is an all-new action-adventure and dungeon crawler that is set in the Minecraft universe.

It’ll be launching in Spring 2020 for Xbox One, Windows 10, PS4 and PC.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps

Ori and the Will of the Wisps, the sequel to Ori and the Blind Forest will be coming to Xbox One and PC on February 11th, 2020.


Battletoads in making a return with a new, unique animation style, side-scrolling action and team-focused gameplay that’s great for couch co-op.

No release date has been announced for the new Battletoads.

Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)

The company is bringing back its Microsoft Flight Simulator series with 4K graphics and using satellite data and Azure AI.

The game will let you fly “from light planes to wide-body jets, fly highly detailed and stunning aircraft in an incredibly realistic world. Create your flight plan and fly anywhere on the planet. Enjoy flying day or night and face realistic, challenging weather conditions.”

Microsoft Flight Simulator is set to be released in 2020 for Xbox One and Windows 10.

The Outer Wilds

Obsidian Entertainment’s upcoming game, The Outer Wilds has been given a release date of October 25th, 2019 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC (as an Epic Games Store timed exclusive).

The game will be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch.
