Tesla has officially announced its latest vehicle with the brand new Tesla Model Y all-electric mid-size SUV.
Tesla says the Model Y has enough room to carry seven adults and their gear comfortably. The Model Y is based on the Model 3’s platform and shares a similar design.
Inside the Model Y, you’ll find a panoramic glass roof, 1.9 cubic meters (66 cubic feet) of storage. And just like the Model 3, the Model Y requires no key and instead uses your smartphone for seamless entry and exit, there’s also a 15-inch touchscreen interface in the center of the dash.
The company says the new Model Y is compatible with both their current Supercharger network (which is in 36 countries) and their new V3 Superchargers, which are able to charge at rates of up to 1,600 km (1,000 miles) per hour.
There will be a few different options available of the Model Y.
The Standard Range Model Y has a range of about 370 km (230 miles), a top speed of about 194 km/h (120 mph), goes 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 sec and start at $52,000 CAD ($39,000 USD) when it arrives in Spring 2021.
The Rear-Wheel Drive Long Range Model Y has a range of about 483 km (300 miles), top speed of about 209 km/h (130 mph), 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 sec and starts at $57,300 CAD ($47,000 USD) and begins deliveries in Fall 2020.
The Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive Long Range Model Y has a range of about 451 km (280 miles), top speed of 217 km/h (135 mph), 0 to 100 km/h in 5.1 sec and starts at $62,300 CAD ($51,000 USD) and arrives in Fall 2020.
The Performance Model Y has a range of about 451 km (280 miles), top speed of 241 km/h (150 mph), 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7 sec and starts at $74,300 CAD ($60,000 USD) and arrives in Fall 2020.
All the layouts of the Model Y come standard with a 5-seat configuration and the 7-seat configuration is an additional $4,000 CAD ($3,000 USD) and won’t be available until 2021.
Production of the Tesla Model Y is set to begin in late 2020. Pre-orders for the Model Y are available now with a $3,200 CAD fully refundable deposit.
