As part of their CES 2019 announcements, Dell’s Alienware brand has updated their thinnest laptop ever, the m15 with the latest Nvidia RTX GPUs and also introduced the m17 laptop.

Alienware m15 (2019)

The Alienware m15 has magnesium alloy and copper body which helps keep the laptop light (at just under 5lbs). It can be optioned with a 90 Whr battery (60 Whr is the default battery) and up to 17 hours of battery life.

The 15.6-inch display has was Alienware calls Narrow-Border and can be optioned with either a 60Hz 1080p display, 144Hz 1080p display, 60Hz 4K display or a 60Hz 4K HDR-400 display.

It’s powered by the 8th Gen Intel Core processors from the 4-core i5-8300H all the way up to the 6-core i9-8950HK and up to 32GB of DDR4 RAM. The m15 can be optioned with an Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti with 4GB GDDR5, RTX 2060 with 6GB GDDR6, RTX 2070 Max-Q with 6GB GDDR6 or RTX 2080 Max-Q with 8GB GDDR6.

For storage, you can get the new m15 with single storage config with either a 1TB Hybrid Drive, 256GB SSD, 512GB SSD or 1TB SSD.

For dual-storage configuration, you have the following options (all the SSDs are PCIe M.2 unless noted):

  • 128GB SSD + 1TB Hybrid Drive,
  • 256GB SSD + 1TB Hybrid Drive,
  • 512GB SSD + 1TB Hybrid Drive,
  • 1TB SSD + 1TB Hybrid Drive,
  • 118GB Intel Optane SSD + 1TB Hybrid Drive,
  • 256GB SSD + 256GB SSD
  • 512GB SSD + 512GB SSD
  • 1TB SSD + 1TB SSD

As for ports, the new m15 comes with a power jack, Gigabit Ethernet port, 2 USB 3.0 Type-A ports, 1 USB 3.0 Type-A port with PowerShare technology, 1 USB-C port with Thunderbolt 3, 1 Alienware Graphics Amplifier port, HDMI 2.0 output, Mini-Display Port 1.3 and audio jack.

You also get Alienware’s AlienFX customizable lighting across 6 zones. The laptop comes in two colours, Epic Silver and Nebula Red (which is only available with the 144Hz display).

The new Alienware m15 starts at $1,799 CAD ($1,579 USD) and available on January 29th.

Alienware m17

The new Alienware m17 is exactly like the smaller m15 just with a 17.3-inch standard display instead. The screen comes in multiple resolutions, 60Hz 1080p, 60Hz 4K and 120Hz QHD.

The m17 is available in Epic Silver and Nebula Red (only available with the 4K display option) and it weighs 5.79lbs. It comes with either a 60 Whr or 90 Whr battery. You also get Alienware’s AlienFX customizable lighting across 6 zones.
