Apple has announced that their acquistion of Shazam is now complete.
“Apple and Shazam have a long history together. Shazam was one of the first apps available when we launched the App Store and has become a favourite app for music fans everywhere,” said Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Apple Music. “With a shared love of music and innovation, we are thrilled to bring our teams together to provide users even more great ways to discover, experience and enjoy music.”
Since introducing their app on the App Store back in 2008, Shazam has been downloaded over 1 billion times worldwide and is used 20 million times per day.
As part of the acqusition, the app will become ad-free. Apple hasn’t revealed the financial details of the acquisition but back in December when the deal was first announced, it was rumored to be around $400 million.
