Apple had a few announcements at their event on September 12th, including the Apple Watch Series 4, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR.
Apple Watch Series 4
Apple has made the screen on Apple Watch Series 4 even larger, it’s more than 30% bigger than the one on the Series 3. The Digital Crown on the Apple Watch Series 4 now has vibration feedback and the speaker on the watch is 50% bigger.
The Apple Watch Series 4 also now has the capability to take an ECG (Electrocardiography) which is used to record the electrical activity of the heart over a period of time.
The S4 processor helps make the Apple Watch Series 4 even faster. It also gets up to 18-hours of battery life and comes with watchOS 5.
The Apple Watch Series 4 will be available in three colours, silver, gold and space grey. Apple Watch Series 4 ships on September 21st with pre-orders beginning September 14th. The watch starts at $519 CAD ($399 USD) for the GPS/Wi-Fi version and $649 CAD ($499 USD) for the GPS + Cellular.
The Apple Watch Series 4 with cellular will be available from Rogers, Bell, Telus in Canada. The Apple Watch Series 3 will be getting a price drop to $369 CAD ($279 USD).
WatchOS 5 will be available to download starting September 17th.
The iPhone XS has an edge-to-edge Super Retina OLED 5.8-inch display and is IP68 water and dust resistant. The screen also supports HDR videos including Dolby Vision.
The iPhone XS Max has a 6.5-inch display and both phones have Apple’s True Tone technology plus stereo speakers. Both phones are powered by the Apple A12 Bionic chip which is the industry’s first 7-nanometer processor.
The iPhone XS and XS Max have dual 12-megapixel cameras, one telephoto and one wide-angle lens. The TrueDepth camera system has been improved to help make Face ID quicker and Animji/Memoji tracking better.
The iPhone XS and XS Max come in 64GB, 256GB and 512GB storage options. The iPhone XS starts at $1,379 CAD ($999 USD) and the XS Max starts at $1,519 CAD ($1099 USD).
The iPhone XS and XS Max ships on September 21st with pre-orders starting September 14th. iOS 12 will be rolling out on September 17th.
The iPhone XR is made from glass and aluminum and IP68 water and dust resistant. The phone has Liquid Retina 6.1-inch LCD display with True Tone.
Apple is calling the iPhone XR, an iPhone X experience on an LCD display. Even though the iPhone XR doesn’t have 3D Touch, it does have Haptic Touch. There is also the TrueDepth camera system for Face ID.
The camera is a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens with OIS and is capable of taking Portrait Mode photos using a single lens (similar to the Google Pixel 2 & 2 XL).
The iPhone XR comes in multiple colours, white, black, blue, yellow, coral and (PRODUCT)RED starting at $1,029 CAD ($749 USD). The iPhone XR comes in three storage options, 64GB, 128GB and 256GB. The iPhone XR pre-orders begin October 19th and it ships on October 27th.
