As part of their mission to include more electric vehicles, Porsche has announced that the production version of Mission E concept is now the Porsche Taycan.
Porsche says the name roughly translates to “lively young horse”, as a reference to the company’s crest. The name is supposed to be pronounced as “tie-con.”
The Porsche Taycan is the company’s answer to the Tesla Model S. The vehicle has two electric motors which produce 600 hp (440 kW) and can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and to 200 km/h in twelve seconds.
The maximum range of the Porsche Taycan is around 500 km. Porsche plans to invest around 6 billion euros towards electric vehicles by 2022.
“Our new electric sports car is strong and dependable; it’s a vehicle that can consistently cover long distances and that epitomizes freedom,” said Oliver Blume, CEO of Porsche AG.
You can get up to 100km of range in just 4 minutes of charging but that’s if you use one of Porsche’s new 800-volt charging stations that they’re going to help implement in North America and Europe. The charging stations give a charge rate of up to 350 kW.
The Porsche Taycan is set to launch in 2019.
