Google Assistant coming to Volvo cars

Volvo has announced a partnership with Google to bring the Google Assistant, the Google Play Store, Google maps and other Google services to their next-generation version of their Sensus infotainment system which is based on Android.

Customers will be able to access the thousands of apps currently available on the Google Play Store, including ones that are optimized for Android-based infotainment systems.

The next generation of Volvo’s Sensus infotainment system will run Android and apps and software updates will be available in real-time and automatically applied.

“Bringing Google services into Volvo cars will accelerate innovation in connectivity and boost our development in applications and connected services,” said Henrik Green, senior vice president of research and development at Volvo Cars. “Soon, Volvo drivers will have direct access to thousands of in-car apps that make daily life easier and the connected in-car experience more enjoyable.”

The Google Assistant integration will allow users to control in-car functions like air conditioning, play music and send messages.

Google Maps integration in Sensus will allow for refreshed map and traffic data in real time as well as keep users informed about upcoming traffic situations and alternative routes.

Volvo hasn’t announced when their next generation Sensus infotainment system will arrive or what vehicles.
