BMW has announced that their all-new i8 Roadster is now available.
The i8 Roadster uses BMW’s eDrive technology which combines an electric motor and a three-cylinder petrol engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology. It’s capable of around 231 horsepower and 170 kWh.
The vehicle can go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds and has a top speed of 250km/h. The i8 Roadster has an electric range of about 53 km (33 miles).
BMW also announced the i8 Coupe which has similar specs to the i8 Roadster but is 0.2 seconds faster to go from 0 to 100 km/h and an electric range of 55 km (34 miles).
Both models of the i8 have a 2+2 seating arrangement and the vehicle has been considered to be a plug-in hybrid, of which the system powering it has won numerous awards including the International Engine of the Year Award for the past three years in a row.
The i8 Roadster has a high-quality, all-season fabric soft-top roof with soundproofing. It can open and close within 15 seconds while travelling at speeds of up to 50 km/h.
The BMW i8 Roadster will be available for purchase later this month. The i8 Coupe starts at $149,900 CAD and the i8 Roadster starts at $169,900 CAD.
