2018 News Snap Inc Snapchat Spectacles

Snap’s new Spectacles are sleeker, better and water resistant

Snap Inc has introduced a new version of their Spectacles.

The new Spectacles have a similar design to the previous model and come in new colours, onyx (black), sapphire (blue) and ruby (red). Each colour comes with two lens shade options.

It’s also now water resistant so you don’t have to worry about getting them wet.

The Spectacles are sleeker and more lightweight. The temple area of the Spectacles 1/3 smaller than the outgoing model and the charging case is 20% smaller.

Snap has partnered with Lensabl to offer prescription and polarized lenses for customers in the US. The new Spectacles are UVA and UVB.

The new Spectacles can now take photos in addition to taking video, which you couldn’t do with the previous Spectacles. It records video at circular 1,216 x 1,216 compared to 1,088 x 1,088. Photos taken with the new Spectacles are 1,642 x 1,642.

You can record video up to 30 seconds and there are dual microphones which help reduce wind noise and balancing conversations in your Snaps.

All photo and video transfers from the new Spectacles are in HD only and there’s a Wi-Fi only import, so transferring from the new Spectacles is much easier and faster.

Snap has said they sold around 220,000 units of their first gen Spectacles. They say that their goal with the original Spectacles was to “get the world comfortable with the idea of wearing a camera on their face, and introduce them to content taken from their personal perspective.”

The new Spectacles are available for purchase now in Canada, US, England and France for $199 CAD ($149 USD). They’ll be coming to more countries in Europe on May 3rd.
