BMW has officially announced their latest concept in their BMW i series with Concept iX3 SUV at Auto China 2018 in Beijing.
The Concept iX3 is the first full-electric model from the company. The vehicle is part of BMW’s vision to help strengthen their position in the field of electric vehicles.
The Concept iX3 uses the fifth generation of BMW eDrive technology. eDrive uses an electric motor, transmission and power electronics and a new separate electric drive component. With this new technology, vehicles will come with new and more powerful batteries.
The BMW Concept iX3 has a 200 kWh electric motor that’s capable of producing 270 horsepower and a range of up to 400 kilometres (249 miles).
The vehicle’s energy storage system has a new Charging Control Unit that enables the Concept iX3 to hook up at fast-charging stations up to 150 kW. The high-voltage battery int he Concept iX3 charges in just 30 minutes at a fast-charging station.
The front of the vehicle has a new kidney-shaped grill which BMW says represents the affiliation with their i brand. BMW says the production version of the Concept iX3 will be produced in Shenyang, China, as part of their BMW Brilliance Automotive joint venture.
The BMW Concept iX3 will go into production sometime in 2020.
