Back at MWC 2018, Sony announced the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact and now they’ve revealed another Xperia XZ2 variant, the Xperia XZ2 Premium with a 4K display and dual-camera setup.
The Xperia XZ2 Premium has a 5.8-inch 4K display, with a resolution of 2,160 x 3840. It’s being powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor with 6GB RAM compared to 4GB of RAM in the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact.
There’s 64GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot with support up to 400GB and USB Type-C 3.1 port.
The Xperia XZ2 Premium has the same 3D glass design as the other XZ2 variants along with Gorilla Glass 5 and is IP65/IP68 water and dust resistant.
The phone also has stereo speakers with S-Force Front Surround and a 3,540 mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 and Qi wireless charging. The phone is running Android 8.0 Oreo.
As for the cameras, the Xperia XZ2 Premium has Sony’s new Motion Eye Dual camera with one 12-megapixel black-and-white sensor and a 19-megapixel colour image sensor. Both lenses produce the highest ISO sensitivity in a smartphone with an ISO of 12,800 for videos and ISO 51,200 for photos.
Sony says that the ultra-sensitivity will help produce noiseless and detailed images. This also helps with better low-light photos. The phone can also record 4K HDR video as well as super slow motion video at up to 960fps. The front-facing camera is 13-megapixels with a display flash.
The Xperia XZ2 Premium will be available in two colours, Chrome Black and Chrome Silver.
Sony says that the Xperia XZ2 Premium will be available globally this summer but they haven’t said which markets. When asked about Canadian availability, a Sony spokesperson said, “We have no plans currently to release the Xperia XZ2 Premium in Canada.”
