Amazon has announced that they’ll be bringing their latest touchscreen Echo device, the Echo Spot to Canada on April 25th.
The Echo Spot has similar features to bigger Echo Show but just in a smaller package. It has a 2.5-inch touchscreen that can be used to watch Prime Video content and video Flash Briefings from such sources as CTV News or Entertainment Tonight.
You can also view your upcoming calendar appointments, weather alerts, see shopping/to-do lists and make alarms.
“Echo Spot combines the popular small design of Echo Dot with the added benefit of a display, and the features you love about Alexa into a stylish and compact device,” said Tom Taylor, Senior Vice President, Amazon Alexa. “See the weather, watch video news briefings, glance at your alarm clock, make video calls, and more. We think customers in Canada will find lots of places for Echo Spot in their homes.”
The Echo Spot has second-generation far-field technology along with four microphones, as well as acoustic beam-forming technology and enhanced noise cancellation. If you have more than one Echo device, Alexa will be able to intelligently respond from the Echo closest to you using ESP (Echo Spatial Perception).
The device has a Drop In feature that allows you to connect to other Echo devices around in your home. You can also say things like, “Alexa, call mom” or “Alexa, send a message to dad.”
There’s also Bluetooth and a 3.5mm headphone jack and a built-in 2W speaker. You can use your voice to play Prime Music, Spotify, TuneIn and more on the Echo Spot’s speaker. There’s also multi-room music support so you can play your music around your home across multiple Echo devices.
Just like other Echo devices, you can use Alexa on the Echo Spot to control your smart home products like Philips Hue or ecobee. You’ll also be able to see smart home camera feeds on the Echo Spot.
The Echo Spot is now available for pre-order and will ship on April 25th. The device will come in two colours, black and white.
