Reddit is rolling out a major redesign

Reddit, the front page of the internet, is rolling a redesigned desktop site, which is the first significant change to look of the site since they introduced subreddits in 2008.

Right now, about 1% of random Reddit users will have access to the new design. The new redesign has been in the works for more than a year. Reddit is starting small to help test the load on their services and will make the new design opt-in over the next few weeks.

The new design comes in three options, Card, Classic and Compact. You can switch between these new view options using the menu at the top of the page.

Reddit has also added new features like the ability to view a post without actually leaving the page you’re on as well as new fonts that help distinguish between external links and links to other posts on Reddit. There’s also a new and more prominent button to create new posts and a new version of Reddit’s mascot, Snoo.

One of the biggest reasons that Reddit has been redesigning the site was to help their engineers make the site more welcoming and more efficient. They’ve made sure that users and communities come first when building their designs.

Reddit’s redesign team have built their designs based on feedback from subreddit moderators, longtime users, beta testers and other redditors involved in the process.

The Reddit Redesign Team says that they’re working on new features like a native nightmode, keyboard shortcuts and more as well as incorporating user feedback.
