According to a report by Variety, Apple has ordered their first animated show, Central Park, to help grow their original programming slate.
Apple has given a two-season order with 13-episodes each, for a total of 26 episodes. The series is said to be a musical comedy about “how a family of caretakers, who live and work in Central Park, end up saving the park, and basically the world.”
Central Park is being written by Bob’s Burgers creator, Loren Bouchard along with Josh Gad and Nora Smith. Gad and Bouchard will be executive producing the series. The show will star Gad, Leslie Odom Jr., Titus Burgess, Kristen Bell, Stanley Tucci, Daveed Diggs, Katheryn Hahn.
The new series will be produced by 20th Century Fox Television. This isn’t Apple’s first original series, they’ve also previously announced straight-to-series orders for a morning-show drama series by Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, a drama by La La Land director, Damian Chazelle, and a drama based on the early life and career of Kevin Durant, of the Golden State Warriors.
Apple is also working on a reboot of Amazing Stories, with Steven Spielberg as executive producer. A space-race drama from Battlestar Galactica and Outlander creator, Ronald D. Moore as well as a drama called See by Steven Knight and Francis Lawrence and an immigrant anthology series called Little America.
No release date has been announced for Central Park.
