Nintendo announces a new Super Smash Bros game, and more for the Switch & 3DS

During a Nintendo Direct, the company made a couple of announcements, including a new Super Smash Bros. game, new content for Splatoon 2 and more third-party titles for their Switch console.

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch

Later this year, a new entry in the Super Smash Bros. will make its way to the Nintendo Switch. You’ll be able to play as Mario, Link and the Inklings from the Splatoon series.

The official title of the game or the official release date hasn’t been announced.

Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion

A new single-player expansion is coming to Splatoon 2, later this summer. Players will be able to play as Agent 8, an Octoling with lost memories. There are over 80 missions and new stories.

Once you complete all 80 missions, you’ll be able to play as the Octolings in the Splatoon 2 multiplayer.

Also, coming in April is the version 3.0 update for Splatoon 2 that will bring over 100+ new pieces of gear, more stages (Piranha Pit, Camp Triggerfish, and Wahoo World) and new rank called Rank X which is an extreme rank that is higher than S+.

Mario Tennis Aces

Nintendo announced new Mario Tennis game back in January but now we have an official release date, which is June 22nd. The game supports up to four-player local multiplayer and a story mode.

The new Mario Tennis game takes advantage of the Joy-Con controllers for more precise control.

Octopath Traveler

Octopath Traveler is a RPG by producer Masashi Takahashi at Square Einx. The game follows two main character, Tressa the Merchant and Alfyn the Apothecary and they each have the ability to equip multiple jobs per character for use in battle.

Octopath Traveler will release on July 13th for the Nintendo Switch.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker

The game initially launched on the Wii U and is now coming to the Wii U. The new version of the game comes with miniature courses that are based on various Kingdoms as featured in Super Mario Odyssey.

You’ll be able to play with a friend or family member by sharing a pair of Joy-Con controllers. Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker will launch for the Switch on July 13th with a 3Ds version with stereoscopic 3D visuals and touchscreen controls also launching that day.

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy

The Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is no longer a PlayStation 4 exclusive. The game is coming to the Nintendo Switch as well as Xbox One and PC.

The Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy features remastered versions of the first three Crash Bandicoot games. It’ll be launching on July 10th.

Okami HD

Okami HD is a remake of the classic action-adventure game. Players of the Nintendo Switch version of the game can either use the console’s touchscreen in Handheld Mode or the Joy-Cons in TV or Tabletop mode.

Okami HD will launch on the Nintendo eShop this summer.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole

South Park: The Fractured But Whole is also making it’s way to the Nintendo Switch. In addition to the main game, there will be add-on content that will be available for purchase for the Switch version and the Xbox One, PS4 and PC versions.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole releases on April 24th.

Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido

Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido is a new puzzle game that has players “devouring conveyor-belt sushi, matching plates and throwing them to defeat enemies.”

The game will be releasing on June 8th for Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch.

Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition

Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition for the Nintendo Switch, now has a release date, it’ll be releasing on May 18th.

WarioWare Gold

WarioWare Gold is the latest entry in the WarioWare series and comes with 300 fast-paced microgames that can be either controlled by pressing buttons, tilting your device, tapping the touchscreen, or using the microphone.

WarioWare Gold releases on August 3rd.

Luigi’s Mansion

The original Luigi’s Mansion launched back in 2001 for the Nintendo GameCube and now Nintendo is releasing a remake of the game for the 3DS, which will launch later this year.

Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story + Bowser Jr’s Journey

Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story + Bowser Jr’s Journey is a remake of the classic action RPG, the game was one of the most critically acclaimed games in the Mario & Luigi series.

The game will launch for the 3DS in 2019.

Dillon’s Dead-Heat Breakers

Dillon’s Dead-Heat Breakers combines action and tower defense gameplay. The game launches on the Nintendo eShop on May 24th with a free demo available on May 10th.

Detective Pikachu

Detective Pikachu is now available for pre-purchase on the Nintendo eShop and before the game launches on March 23rd.

There will also be an extra-large Detective Pikachu amiibo figure to launch alongside the game.
