Sony made a few announcements at MWC 2018, including their latest flagship phones and some open-ear wireless earbuds.

Xperia XZ2

The Xperia XZ2 has a 5.7-inch Full HD+ display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. It’s being powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot.

The body is made of metal and glass and is IP65/68 water and dust resistant and a fingerprint sensor on the back. The battery is 3,180 mAh with Smart Stamina to help your battery last longer and Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0, Wireless Charging and USB-PD. There’s also a USB Type-C port but no headphone jack but Sony is including support for Hi-Res audio using their DSEE HX technology.

The rear-facing camera is a 19-megapixel Motion Eye lens with a 1/2.3″ Exmor RS sensor and capable of taking 960fps slow-motion video. The Xperia XZ2 is capable of recording 4K HDR, which Sony says is the first smartphone to do so.

The front-facing camera is 5-megapixels. The Xperia XZ2 will be capable of achieving up to Gigabit LTE speeds.

The Xperia XZ2 will come with Android 8.0 Oreo and be available in four colours, Liquid Black, Liquid Silver, Deep Green and Ash Pink.

No Canadian pricing was announced but the Xperia XZ2 is set to release in March.

Xperia XZ2 Compact

The Xperia XZ2 Compact has similar specs to the Xperia XZ2. The only real difference is that the Xperia XZ2 Compact has a 5-inch Full HD+ display with an 18:9 aspect ratio.

Just like the standard Xperia XZ2, the Xperia XZ2 Compact is being powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot. The  fingerprint sensor on the back of the device.

The camera on the back of the Xperia XZ2 Compact is the 19-megapixel Motion Eye with a 1/2.3″ Exmor RS sensor and slow-motion video at 960fps. The front-facing camera is 5-megapixels.

The battery in the Xperia XZ2 Compact is 2,870 mAh with Smart Stamina, Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0, Wireless Charging and USB-PD over the USB Type-C port.

The Xperia XZ2 Compact is IP65/68 water and dust resistant. The Xperia XZ2  Compact will come with Android 8.0 Oreo and be available in four colours, Black, White Silver, Moss Green and Coral Pink.

No Canadian pricing was announced but the Xperia XZ2 Compact is set to release in March.

Xperia Ear Duo

Sony also announced the Xperia Ear Duo, which is a wireless “open-ear” stereo headset. It comes with a feature called “Dual Listening” which allows users to hear their music and hear the world around them.

The Xperia Ear Duo also comes with “Daily Assist” which can recognize the time, locations, and activities that may be relevant to you throughout the day.

The Xperia Ear Duo can last about four hours on a single charge and the case can add three more charges to the earbuds.

The Xperia Ear Duo will be available in two colours, Black and Gold and will work with Android and iOS. The Xperia Ear Duo is set to release in spring 2018.
