Nintendo have announced that they’re currently working on a new Mario Kart game for mobile devices, partnering with Illumination Entertainment to make a movie about Mario.

The new mobile game will be called, Mario Kart Tour and it’s currently in development and will be released by March 2019, which is when Nintendo’s fiscal year ends.

Not a whole lot was said about the upcoming mobile game. Also, Nintendo announced that an animated film based on the World of Super Mario Bros, which of course will star everyone’s favourite plumber, Mario.

Illumination Entertainment will be handling the animation, while the film will be distributed worldwide by Universal Pictures (who also owns Illumination).

Shigeru Miyamoto, Representative Director and Fellow of Nintendo along with Illumination co-founder and CES, Chris Meledandri will both produce the film.

No release date was announced but I would suspect 2020 at the earliest, depending on how far along Illumination and Nintendo are in the production (most likely pre-production).

This animated Mario film will likely be a tie-in for the Super Mario World area that is coming to Universal Studios Japan.

Nintendo also announced that their online service for the Switch console will officially launch in September and will be $19.99 USD (which is around $24 CAD) per year, or $3.99 USD for 1 month or $7.99 USD for 3-months.

In addition to being able to play with your friends, you’ll also get access to a library of classic games that you’ll be able to play on the go. But from now until September, online aspects of the Switch will be free.
