LG’s 2018 TVs will be smarter and faster

LG has announced that their 2018 OLED and Super UHD TVs will be powered by the company’s ThinQ platform and the Alpha 9 processor.

LG’s ThinQ platform will allow their TVs to be controlled via voice including third-party AI services such as Google Assistant or Alexa (but they haven’t been confirmed yet). The upcoming TVs with ThinQ will be able to act as smart home hubs and connect to other products such as robotic vacuums, AC units, smart lights and more.

You’ll also be able to say things like “search for the soundtrack to this movie” or “turn off the TV when this program is over” without needing to actually specify what you’re watching or a certain time.

The Alpha 9 processor should help provide the best TV picture quality. LG’s Nano Cell technology in their Super UHD TVs will help employ Full-Array Local Dimming (FALD) backlighting which can provide deeper blacks and enhanced colours.

LG’s 2018 OLED and Super UHD TVs will have support for 4K Cinema HDR including support for Advanced HDR by Technicolor. As well as Dolby Vision, HDR10, HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma), all of this is being done frame by frame using LG’s algorithm, Enhanced Dynamic Tone mapping.
