Snapchat has announced a new desktop app for Windows and Mac called Lens Studio.
It allows users to design and build their own augmented reality Snapchat Lenses that can be used within the app. And in case you’re not sure how to get started, Snapchat has templates and guides to help you out.
The Lens Studio also allows developers access to a scripting API to help them code their own interactive experiences.
Once you’re finished with your creation, you can publish your Lens and you’ll get a Snap code that other people can scan to unlock your Lens.
Snapchat says that at least one third of their daily audience uses Lenses, averaging about 3 minutes each per day. For advertisers or brands, Snapchat is partnering with AR development agencies to create both face and World Lenses and they’ll be able to tailor it depending on budget, timelines and industries.
The Lens Studio is available to download now, you’ll need either Windows 10 or macOS 10.10 and later and have a minimum of a Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB of RAM and a Nvidia GeForce 6600 or similar.
