Earlier this year, ecobee released their latest smart thermostat with the ecobee4 with Amazon Alexa built-in but at the time, it was only released in the US.
Now with the recent announcement of Amazon’s Canadian launch of their Alexa Voice Service, ecobee has now officially released the ecobee4 with Amazon Alexa in Canada.
The thermostat has a rounded square design and a 3.5-inch touchscreen. The new model also adds super sensitive far-field microphones for talking to Alexa.
The device is compatible with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, Samsung SmartThings, IFTTT and just recently announced, Google Assistant.
Essentially the ecobee4 can do everything that a regular Amazon Echo device can do in addition to being a smart thermostat.
“As a proud Canadian company, it is an exciting milestone for us to offer ecobee4 to Canadians with the launch of Amazon Alexa across the country,” said ecobee President and CEO Stuart Lombard. “We are committed to building technology that makes customers’ lives simpler and better. Technology that allows our customers to focus on the things that matter – their families and moments they share. With ecobee4, and soon the smart light switch, voice recognition will make for an even easier, seamless smart home experience so our customers can get back to enjoying what matters most.”
The ecobee4 is part of the company’s vision for a whole-home-voice future which will include a voice-enabled smart light switch coming in early 2018.
“Canadian customers can now bring Alexa into their smart homes with ecobee4,” said Steve Rabuchin, Vice President, Amazon Alexa. “We’re thrilled that ecobee chose to integrate Alexa into its flagship thermostat device. The experience of simply asking Alexa to adjust your thermostat, and for her thousands of other skills and capabilities, is magical. We can’t wait for customers in Canada to try it out.”
The ecobee4 is available now for $329 CAD from ecobee.com, Amazon.ca, Lowes, Home Depot. The device comes with one room sensor and can support up to 32.
