J.J. Abrams is returning to a galaxy, far, far away. Lucasfilm has announced that Abrams will co-write and direct Star Wars: Episode IX.
This news comes just days after, Colin Trevorrow left the director’s chair because his vision for the film clashed with Lucasfilm’s. Abrams will co-write the final instalment of the sequel trilogy with Chris Terrio.
“With The Force Awakens, J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy,” said Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.
Star Wars: Episode IX is set to hit theatres on December, 20th, 2019.
Update: Disney and Lucasfilm have pushed the release date of Star Wars: Episode IX from May 24th, 2019 to December, 20th, 2019.
