Amazon has announced that Echo users will be able to play their music across multiple devices and rooms.
You’ll be able to choose which Echo device or group of devices you want your music to play on just by asking “Alexa, play Coldplay downstairs.”
Right now, multi-room music only works with music from Amazon Music, TuneIn, iHeartRadio and Pandora. Amazon says support for Spotify and SiriusXM is coming soon.
Multi-room music is rolling out now for users in the US, UK and Germany on their Echo, Echo Dot and Echo Show devices.
Amazon has also announced a tool for developers called the Alexa Voice Service (AVS) Multi-Room Music SDK. This can help developers and AVS device makers to integrate Multi-Room Music support. The SDK will be available early next year.
In addition, Amazon also announced the Connect Speaker APIs which are a new set of tools that can help device makers with connected audio systems to control music playback via Alexa. Amazon is working with brands such as Sonos, Bose, Sound United and Samsung to integrate the new APIs into their products.
The Connect Speaker APIs are available today as a developer preview.
