Samsung has announced that their Bixby Voice assistant is now available in Canada as part of a global expansion that includes over 200 countries and territories.
Samsung says the expansion can allow millions of people “to experience a smarter way to interact with their phones.” Those with the Galaxy S8 & S8+ in Canada, UK, Australia, South Africa will be able to take advantage of Bixby’s voice capabilities.
You’ll only be able to talk to Bixby in US English or Korean but that’s still better than nothing. Bixby allows you to control your phone using Quick Commands which allow you to create a custom voice command to use instead of one or more commands. So you could say, “good night” and Bixby will know to turn on Do Not Disturb mode, set an alarm and turn on the blue light filter.”
Bixby will also be able to understand the way you speak, ask questions and make requests. One example is that if you take a photo, you can then ask Bixby to “send the picture just taken to Mom” and Bixby will know which photo you’re referring to and text it to your mom.
Samsung says they’ll be continually improving Bixby and bringing it to additional markets, languages, devices (like the Galaxy Note8), features and third-party applications.
To get Bixby Voice on your Galaxy S8 or S8+, you can hold down the Bixby button or say “Hi, Bixby” and you should get access to the Bixby Voice assistant.
