Disney made quite a few announcements at their biennial D23 Expo which took place in Anaheim, including details about the upcoming Star Wars Land, their live-action remakes and animated movies and much more.
Let’s first start with some of the movie announcements that Disney revealed. Let’s first start-ff with The Incredibles 2, which is the long-awaited sequel and the second movie will start right where the first movie ended, with The Incredible family about to take on the Underminer.
In addition, will focus on Elastigirl while Mr. Incredible will be stuck at home taking care of Jack-Jack and discovering Jack-Jack has powers. The Incredibles 2 will release on June 15th, 2018.
Toy Story 4 now has a new director for the film, Josh Cooley, who previously worked on Inside Out and directed the short, Riley’s First Date. Cooley will be the sole director of Toy Story 4, with John Lasseter now just executive-producing instead of co-directing with Cooley.
The new film will also introduce a new paper doll character by the name of Lulu. Toy Story 4 will release on June 21st 2019.
Pixar is also working a new original film which “takes place in a fantasy world, but a modern fantasy world. Magic used to exist, but it was too difficult to use.” says John Lasseter. “Unicorns are everywhere, they are basically rodents.” The new film will be directed by Dan Scanlon, who previously directed Monsters University.
Pixar will reveal more details about the film at D23 Expo 2019.
Disney also showed off some new footage from Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 which has Ralph and Vanellope exploring the world-wide web.
Vanellope’s game Sugar Rush, has broken down and a replacement part is needed, so her and Ralph travel the internet to find it. The footage that Disney showed off, had Ralph and Vanellope meeting a new character by the name of Yesss, voiced by Taraji P. Henson. She takes them on a tour of the web and they stop by OhMyDisney.com and Vanellope comes across some Disney Princesses whose voices are reprised by the original voice actresses themselves, Jodi Benson (voice of Ariel), Paige O’Hara (voice of Belle), Linda Larkin (voice of Jasmine), Irene Bedard (voice of Pocahontas), Anika Noni Rose (voice of Tiana), Mandy Moore (voice of Rapunzel), Auli’i Cravalho (voice of Moana), and Kelly Macdonald (voice of Merida).
Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 is being directed by Rich Moore and Phil Johnston and is set to release on November 21st, 2018.
As for some of Disney’s upcoming live-action movies, they showed off a small clip from Mary Poppins Returns, starring Emily Blunt, Lin-Manuel-Miranda and being directed by Rob Marshall.
The new film takes place more than 20 year after the original film during the Great Depression. Mary Poppins Returns is set to release on December 25th, 2018.
Disney has also cast their Aladdin , Jasmine & Genie for the upcoming remake of the animated classic. Mena Massoud will play Aladdin, Naomi Scott will play Jasmine and Will Smith will play Genie. Disney hasn’t announced a release for the film but it will be directed by Guy Richie.
Disney also announced a release date for the upcoming Dumbo live-action remake by Tim Burton. Here’s the Disney said about the film:
Production is underway for the live-action reimagining of Disney’s 1941 animated classic “Dumbo.” Directed by visionary filmmaker Tim Burton (“Alice in Wonderland,” “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”), the film stars Golden Globe® winner Colin Farrell (“In Bruges,” “The Lobster”), Golden Globe winner Michael Keaton (“Birdman,” “Beetlejuice”), Emmy® and Golden Globe winner Danny DeVito (“Batman Returns,” “Big Fish”), BAFTA Award winner and Golden Globe nominee Eva Green (“Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children,” “Dark Shadows”), and introduces Nico Parker and Finley Hobbins in their first film roles. The cast also includes Roshan Seth, DeObia Oparei, Sharon Rooney and Douglas Reith. Katterli Frauenfelder (“Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children,” “Big Eyes”), Derek Frey (“Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children,” “Frankenweenie”), Ehren Kruger (“Ophelia,” “Dream House”) and Justin Springer (“TRON: Legacy”) are producing from a screenplay by Kruger. Nigel Gostelow (“Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children,” “Dark Shadows”) is the executive producer. “Dumbo” is slated for release on March 29, 2019.
Disney’s new live-action feature film “Dumbo” introduces Holt Farrier (Farrell), a former circus star who finds his life turned upside down when he returns from the war. Circus owner Max Medici (DeVito) enlists Holt to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock in an already struggling circus. But when Holt’s children (Parker and Hobbins) discover that Dumbo can fly, persuasive entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere (Keaton) and an aerial artist named Colette Marchant (Green) swoop in to make the peculiar pachyderm a star.
Dumbo will release in 2019.
Disney also showed off a behind-the-scenes video for Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is being directed by Rian Johnson and will release on December 15th, 2017.

Now onto the Disney theme parks and there are some big things coming. Disney has announced the official name for the upcoming Star Wars themed land coming to Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World in 2019. The new land will be called Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Disney says that land will be the more immersive experience they’ve ever created.
In addition, the Disney World version of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will include a Star Wars themed hotel that will be as immersive as the themed land. Disney says it will be like you’re in a “living adventure.” The Disneyland version of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open before D23 2019 (which is usually during the summer months) with the Disney World version later in the year.
Disney announced a new Tron roller coaster will be coming to the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. It will be situated next to Space Mountain and not replace any existing rides. The new Tron coaster will be similar to the one found at Shanghai Disneyland and will open by Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary in 2021.
Some exciting things will be coming to Epcot as well. Disney has announced that a Ratatouille ride will be coming to Epcot’s France pavilion.
In addition, a Guardians of the Galaxy ride will be replacing the Universe of Energy, which will close in August 13th, 2017.
The China pavilion will be getting a new seamless CircleVision film and a new space-themed restaurant will be coming to the area next to Mission: Space. Disney will also be updating Mission: Space with the help of ILM.
As for Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney announced a new ride will be replacing The Great Movie Ride and will star Mickey and Minnie Mouse. The new ride will be called Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway and Disney says the new ride will make you feel like “you’re inside a Mickey cartoon.”
The new Mickey ride will use a new visual technology which Disney called “2 1/2 D” which required no 3D glasses but it will feel like the 3D images are around you. The last day for The Great Movie Ride will be on August 13th, 2017.
Disney also announced some new transportation options for Walt Disney World. The first is the Disney Skyliner which is a new gondola system that connects Disney’s Art of Animation, Pop Century and Caribbean Beach resorts as well as Disney’s Hollywood Studios and the International Gateway at Epcot.
They also announced a new car service called Minnie Van and it’s a Uber-like service that can take you to anywhere around the Walt Disney World resort.
Disney also revealed a new Marvel land will be coming to Disney’s California Adventure to go along with Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Break-out. You’ll be able to see your favourite superheroes like Spider-Man and the Avengers in this “completely immersive Super Hero universe.”
Disney didn’t reveal any more details about the upcoming land.
Disney also announced that Toy Story Land will open in summer 2018 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The new land will make you feel like you’re the size of a toy as your explore Andy’s backyard. Toy Story Land will bring two new attractions, Slinky Dog Dash which is a family coaster and Alien Swirling Saucers.
Disney also announced a new hotel at Walt Disney World resort called Disney Riviera Resort and will connect to the newly-announced Disney Skyliner. The new hotel will open in fall 2019.
At Disney’s California Adventure, Disney will be retheming Paradise Pier as Pixar Pier in 2018.
Disney also announced a new Marvel-themed hotel for Disneyland Paris now called Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel.

Disney made a few video game announcements too including showing off a new trailer for Kingdom Heart 3.
Kingdom Hearts 3 is set to (finally) release in 2018 for Xbox One and PS4.
In addition, Disney has partnered with Lenovo to create Star Wars: Jedi Challenges, which use a special augmented reality headset with your smartphone plugged into it and you’ll be able to test your lightsaber skills or play Holochess.

Disney also announced a new VR game called, Marvel Powers United VR and it will be exclusively coming to Oculus Rift and Touch. The game will be coming out in 2018.
