Google’s Daydream team has announced a new video format called VR180. It was designed to help make VR content even easier to create.
Google says VR180 videos, “focus on what’s in front of you,” in addition to being high-res and work well on desktop and mobile. They also say that when someone views a VR180 video in a VR headset, the videos are seamlessly transitioned to make an immersive experience to view images in stereoscopic 3-D, so then “near things look near, and far things appear far.”
VR180 also supports livestreams so it will be like you’re actually there in real-time. Google says that content creators will be able “to set up and film your videos the way you normally would with any other camera. And, soon, you’ll be able to edit using familiar tools like Adobe Premiere Pro. From vlogs, to makeup tutorials to music videos – your videos will work great in VR.”
Google is also teaming up with companies such as LG, Lenovo, and YI to create cameras that especially for making VR180 content. The company also says they will be opening up their VR180 certification for manufacturers and Z CAM will be Google’s first partner. The first VR180 cameras will be available by the end of the year.
Google has already made a playlist of a view VR180 videos they’ve made with some of YouTube’s top creators. You can find that here.
